Got my Ross-Tech VCDS cable :D

Staging is the needle sweep when you turn the ignition on, the Superb does this from the factory, the Yeti however does not.

You should be able to have the fuel consumption, oil temp etc as well as the large MPH display (Alt. Speed. Disp un-ticked) you certainly can on MY11 cars (not been able to check it myself on a MY12 though as the only MY12 car I have tried to do would not accept the Australia coding for some reason)

Hi Gizmo68

The effect on my car seems to be the reverse of what you have been used to, something else I have noticed is that the checking/unchecking of the Alt speed Disp also removes/restores the Digi speed option. The large MPH is obtained by rotating the roller on the steering wheel, which removes the other display

If my car were American it would use normal miles although the US gallon is smaller ( I think a UK gallon is approx 1.4 US). I wonder what the result of "making the car american" and adjusting the size of its gallon (if possible) to compensate for the MPG would be. I think I need to do some research to see what the likes of Canada etc produce, I wonder if anyone has tried them?

You can chose what units you want, it is not dependant on country.

Australia use Kms, I seem to remember, but have changed mine to uk units.

Hopefully I will be getting my hands on a MY12 Yeti next week so I can see for myself, but it does indeed sound reversed.

Mike is right that the units used can be changed, as is needed, when the car is changed to Australia.

VCDS Hex-Can arrived this morning. Loaded tested and working O.K. first scan taken and saved. :sun:

Before I start to change anything I will have a good read through the Ross-Tech manual on line. In addition to a couple of the items above I intend to change the car to Australian to get MPH on the Maxidot. When Itake the car across to Germany if there is not the option of changing from KPH to MPH via the dashboard I will just use VCDS to change it back again :coffee:

Zippyijk does your car show MPH or KPH on the maxidot? If it shows MPH that might give an option of making Australian or Irish! Don't forget to post if you change anything else whether it work sor not. :thumbup:

Mine is in KPH...what we use in Ireland since our German European overloads decided we should ;)

Haven't changed anything else on the Yeti since, mainly due to the fact my wife took it and I'm driving her A3.

The cable has been put to good use on the A3 a few times now and on a few mates cars too so still happy I splashed out on it.

Hi Zippyijk

Although I can now display MPH rather than KPH I tend not to use it as I loose other items. I like to have the current MPG displayed, the normal reading when I arrive at work is an indicated average of 56/57 mpg, I tried several days using the maxidot MPH which meant that I lost the other part of the display (current mpg) and comsuption was then indicated as an average of48/49 mpg.

A loss of around 7 mpg is quite a lot, I may try making my car Canadian, American etc to see if one gives the option of MPG with the other items displayed at the same time. My car is an MY2012 so it may vary from earlier models in respect of what is displayed at any one time.

Did you change the units back to MPG (UK) after you changed the country?

Hi

yes I did.

The first picture below shows the display that I prefer, current consumption, temperature and speed all at the same time (but speed only available in KPH). The second picture shows the extra option which became available (alt speed disp). The third picture shows what I get when I select MPH, outside temperature, MPH but no current mpg reading. The mph displayed is obtained by using the left hand roller on the steering wheel. Checking or unchecking alt speed disp swaps between kph and mph.

Correct, there is no way to have both the large MPH display AND the consumption at the same time.

Ah!

That explains it, at least now you know that an MY2012 works the same way. Looks like I may be going back to KPH.Thanks for your advice.

  • 4 years later...

Last thing was that the...

Reverse mirror tilt:

52 - Door Elect, Pass.

Long Coding

Byte 4

If the byte has value 40 (cars without electrically folding mirrors)

change it to 4C

Well I can't see any coding on this module, its all blank says module coding unknown or something like that.

I did find

09 - Cent Elec

Coding

Long Coding

Byte 4

Bit 3 (Mirror Lowering with Reverse Rear)

This enables an option(checkbox) on the maxidot for enabling lowering of the mirror.

Did this but its not working.

Have the mirror adjustment knob on the passenger side too as its needed on some other models, again didn't work.

I also remember on some other models that the position has to be set up? Anyone any ideas?

Did this mod yesterday on my new Yeti and it worked. I want to stress that I don’t have electric seats. But it did take me time to enable this mod because many conditions have to be met for it to work:

- Passenger door coding (52 - Door Elect, Pass.) must be changed: lower eight bits of Byte 4 must be set to hexadecimal C (or 4 in some cases), in my case I had to change byte 4 from 50 to 5C;

- 09 - Cent Elec coding must also be changed as mentioned in the quote;

- after that, it is essential to go into Settings in Maxidot and tick the mark against “Mirror down” in the Convenience settings;

- then do not forget to set the mirror adjustment knob to “L” or “R” (the opposite to the side on which the steering wheel is).

Only when all the above is met will the passenger mirror tilt after engaging reverse gear.
