2.0 VRS TDI PD fast start?

Featured Replies

I apologize in advance for this question.

Simply put, What is the best way for a fast start?

Does anyone have a good guide as to what revs to set off at and what gear to be in at what revs for the fastest possible start.

It seems that if I change at about 2,000 revs in 1st it's much quicker rather than pushing it to 2,500 - 3,000 revs?

I don't want to promote speeding etc ... Just a general question

Thanks

Remind me not to buy ur car when u sell it talking about taking of like that in a diesel :(

So your not allowed to set off quick in a diesel then? it's like listening to myths about the do's and dont's of what you can do being a diesel owner!

I'm buying a diesel VRS soon, and will give it some beans no doubt. That said, I won't be redlining it everywhere - did that when I was eighteen and ended up with a crack in the fuel pump so big it was practically split in half......

If you really want to thrash it, the trick is not to let off - as long as you keep the power down, all is well, but once you let go you're stuffed, particularly with the PD

The fastest way to accelerate is to change up at the redline in every gear. It may not feel like it, because your butt dyno says you're not accelerating as hard after 3000 rpm, but it is.

I'm not red lining it by any means as the power runs out way before then. Maybe Im enjoying the step up from 75 bhp to much?!

They're a pig to get quick starts with. Best bet like you say is get out of 1st ASAP.

I also find quick shifts into 3rd can be hard.

New brake fluid and bleed the clutch will help.

Be prepared to have to replace the DMF/Clutch after a bit of this, as the DMF won't like it one bit, however you'd then be able to put an SMF in, which would help with a decent get away.

Check the mountings to the gear box and make sure your shocks and springs are in good order.

Obviously, beyond that, it won't be helping the rest of the engine, to be putting a lot of strain on it.

sell it and get a petrol!

I had a feel this was coming :)

sorry had to be said! Wouldn't you diesel boys get better starts in 2nd gear using the torque to get you going?

I would of got the petrol but the insurance was to expensive for me, I'm sure setting off in 2nd would be best, I'm not sure how long the clutch would last like that though!

2nd gear starts can be quicker with a bit of clutch control, however say bye-bye to mr clutch after several attempts :(

Hey thanks for the reply, I'm going to ask a stupid question ...

How is it then Audi have been using diesel for a long time now for the prototype cars (Le Mans)?

Is there not a secret launch control on the car? Sure I read that if you put foot on clutch in first gear, floor the accelerator (will only go to 3000) then release clutch. Sounds savage but I'm sure I read it on here. Try a search.
