Vrs TDi tyre pressures.

Featured Replies

So everytime i walk up to my car the front tyres always look a bit flat. I check them daily and pump them up to the right pressures all round. Manual says 2.0 front and 2.1 rear with no luggage or passengers but i pump them up to 2.1 all round but fronts still look flat.

All tyres are them same age and brand, Falken 452, 225/40R18, on Zeniths

What are your tested and proven tyre pressures for longevity, grip and comfort.

I use 2.3 to 2.4. Standard pressure sees too low.

Which way round? What tyres, size and model car you got.

Please post your specs when responding

See my sig for the car.

So as its the FL they are same size 18's as yours. I put the same all round unless i am loaded and i put the full pressure in as per the fuel flap.

Tyres are Conti SC2 and 3.

But as mine is a diesel there is probably a little more weight over the front maybe.

As for longevity, i can't really comment as i run 16inch winters, and have had 2 of the 18's replaced due to punctures and have also swapped front to back.

I have the Falken 452s also and run them at 2.3bar front and 2.1bar rear.

There was on a tyre review website regarding the F452s, mentioning they had a softer sidewall and inflating them slightly higher than usual improved the ride.

2.3 bar allround and 3.5mm of tread left at 12K on Contis............but I do drive like an idiot

Dont take it the wrong way, forums and text arent the ideal format to understand feeling.

I was literally asking a quick question and then pointing out to other members to please post specs

As per the manual but as others have said, it seems a little low. Might be tempted to go 2.2 all round. Standard Contis on Neptune18's and a very good CR under the bonnet.

Zenith 17,s 225/45 17

2.1 all round.

45 psi - I know I will get caned but it works well for me.

Do all you guys have Tdi's

I've pumped my fronts up to 2.3 and left the rear at 2.1 as per manual.

Went for a quick blast round my b roads but they still feel a little squirrelly, almost feels like the rear flex in the lateral direction too much, like a few milliseconds after you expect them to move, it makes hasty driving a bit of an experience.

Should i pump the rears up to 2.3 to even things out a bit, might even increase the fronts yet as i feel that diesel lump is still too heavy for them

Says you have a TFSI on your profile?

Just try 2.4 all round.

Completely agree with them looking a little flat at standard pressures. Even the wife commented!

Will keep an eye on this thread and perhaps try a little more air in future.

Just checked them again today using the same pump i used yesterday and i was down 0.3 bar all round, in less than 24 hours!

What gives? Outside temp was a bit colder.

So pumped them up to 2.4 front and 2.1 rear and they look better now that its raining ill wait for the test drive.

Ive never given tyre pressures so much attention

Saves tyre wear I guess - the way you do it, I dare say the only bit that gets worn out is a little band in the middle ;)

Now all you need to do is find someone who criminally UNDERinflates their tyres to the extent that you Overinflated them, and you can carry our a tyre share/exchange system......

Well, "criminally" is pushing the boat out a bit but I like the idea. My tyres though are worn evenly, all four of them.

Barking - WAY too high - high enough I would think to be an issue if checked after an accident. I reckon an accident investigator would list tyre pressures that high as a contributing factor. Now this may or may not be an issue but lets say it involves a fatality; insurance companies don't need much of an excuse to refuse a payout and before you know it you're in court facing a civil lawsuit.

I'm pretty sure 45psi is the maximum most car tyres will take and that level exposes you to more risk of pothole damage and because of the smaller contact patch, you are almost certainly reducing the amount of grip available compared to the correct inflation pressure.

- I am a long way short of the max permissible inflation pressure on all my tyres though which is 51 psi (ContiSC2 and Nokian WR-G2).

Had the fronts up to 36 psi before and the rears at 32 and it all felt too hard on the road. The fronts are better on 32 and 31 at rear because I hardly have a full car or boot.

I know this is an old thread. I just got stung for 2 new fronts after 12k. Centre tyre wear, pressures too high.

I had them at 34psi all round. I'd definitely stick to the manual values of 30psi front, 32psi rear (estate - not sure if it makes a difference)

34 front 32 back feels good to me
