high millage VRs

Featured Replies

dont know of this has been asked before,

but what are the opionions of buying a vrs with the likes of between 80-120k miles on the clock, how much life has the engine got left and how much abuse is it gonna take with mods and more power

New engines from 550...

A few big mods begining on blocks of 60k+ so with appropiate preventative work, cam belt, oil, it *should* be ok...the 1.8t is often described as being almost indistructable.

Have a nosey around, I think now in the archives but a thread on what it took to actually break one...and then it was internals letting go and not the block it'self ;)

well i have been looking on autotrader and there are a couple in the sub 5k market, i am having trouble selling my car so gonna c if i can do a straight swap

Wouldn't bother me buying a high mileage car in this day and age. As long as it had a FSH and confirmation all necessary works carried out as and where appropriate.

Ten years ago I used to worry about cars with 20 k on the clock! !

If you get offered a black VRS with a plate starting RX51***, probably in excess of 150k miles - PM me!

I bought my Octy wth 76k on the clock. It went straight into a main delaer for a full service (long interval oil) and cambelt change, from there it went to Jabba who remapped it.

I've just gone over 80k miles (just 4k in 7 months). The engine runs like new. The only thing that has failed is the rubber gaiter around the rear shock absorber and the DV diaphram was split prior to remap (changed by Jabba to a Bailey)

My car was previously a motorway muncher so there are a fair few stone chips on the front edge of the bonent but its not really a problem and Chips-Away etc. can sort it if required.

I'd say a VRS at less that 5k is a bargain.

I was impressed when I saw a red 52 plate vRS parked up (at the skoda garage ) with 99k miles on the clock (and a sticker under the rear plate with something like ' a 150 mph skoda who would believe it' anyone on here own that car?)

Is that the black one formerly owned by the non track day vicar? Must be nice and loose.Or would the pm advise different :D

yeah thats what i was thinking, but there is just the problem of getting my car sold before i can do anything grrrrrrr

The one starting RX51*** could be described as loose ;)

No, I'm not a vicar.

As for trackdays, well in the 30 months and 142,000 miles I owned it, it only did just over 11,000 track miles :D

Mind you, it has had a new engine and 2 new turbos. :(

Suppose we are going off topic but it's too late now!

I would love to do it .Looked incredibly hairy when Clarkson did it.Cars and bikes coming out of nowhere  .I'd worry about 'taking people out' accidently.

Probably sensible to do it in a high mileage
