Will reverting my car back to standard map erase existing fault codes?

Featured Replies

Ok so basically my car (1.9 vrs) has a shark (sts) remap on it & has recently started playing up and I want to take it back to the dealer to read the fault codes. I will post the prob on another thread. The car is just still inside warranty but obviously when they will drive it they will likely know that it's not standard so I want to use the sts unit to put my old map back on short term - my question is: will flashing the ecu back to standard map also erase the fault codes existing fault codes?

I'm slightly suspicious of if there are even any codes to be read though as there are no warning lights up on my dash

Thanks in advance

Changing maps shouldn't clear any faults that are stored.

Pretty sure they can read how many times the ecu has been 'flashed'

Erm, you can read fault codes with your STS?

Im guessing you want to revert to standard map so you can keep your warrenty? I hate to be the one to say it but even though it wont get rid of the fault codes the first thing the engineers will check is if its had a remap and if its been removed! If they find you have then your warrenty will be void!

Why don't you take it to Shark to look at it , the dealers had my car 3 days to try to ascertain why my aircon would not work,( they said there was something wrong with my ECU) came down with a mate, no fault codes showed compressor spinning and not pumping so clutch had gone in the compressor, took us 5 mins :giggle:

No, codes will remain :)

Very unlikely (but not impossible). Yes it can be checked, but it won't be the '1st thing' they check. Having had my car in for a number of waranty repairs, I have always reverted back to stock using the STS and have never been turned away.

Either they don't look or they turn a blind eye. Both suits me fine. I have used 3 different dealers BTW.

To the OP, good luck with the repairs. let us know how you get on, as this always comes up on here and havent actually heard of anyone refused warranty on the basis of a mapped car.

Also, if the problem isn't related to the map then I don't think they could refuse anyway :)
