After nearly 4 years, and 80,000 miles.........it's going! :-(

Featured Replies

Well, after being the second new Superb owner on here, I've enjoyed nearly 4 years, and 80,000 miles of pretty painless motoring.

I've had one or two niggles with the Park Assist system, and the control module has been replaced twice under warranty. Other than that, it's been pretty much plain sailing. Only other thing I've done is replace the bluetooth module for better compatibility.

So, what to do now?

I've really loved owning the Superb, but this has been my 4th Skoda in a row (Original Superb, Octy vRS TDI, Octy L+K, new Superb), and I'm itching for a change.

I really like the look of the Superb Estate, but the technology is now looking a bit long in the tooth, especially in the media/navigation area.

Dare I say it, but I really like the look of the new 3-Series. I know it's much smaller inside, but I'm a gadget freak, and there's gadgets aplenty on the 3-Series options list. The other major benefit is the power/mpg/emissions benefits of the Beemer.

The 328i has better emissions, power and fuel economy that I'm likely to get from a new Superb. This is an area where VW technology really seems to have stood still. If I got the 320d, it's waaaay better.

So, what do you guys think? New Superb, new 3-Series Touring, or something else?

Cost is not a problem then if you are going to match levels of equipment.

Watch out for BMW cars. The new ones are stupidly easy to nick, and they're becoming a nightmare to insure. BMW haven't officially recognised there is a problem yet.

A 3 series touring (328i or maybe 330d) is pretty high on my list of replacements for my Octy vRS.

Agree that BMW seems to be stealing a march on VW/Audi (and most others too) in engine terms.

Same here - was looking at the 320D with the 184bhp and to spec it up to a decentish level (bit higher than my Octy) it is £39k!

Agreed. It is expensive, but cost is not an issue, as I'm doing it via a company based salary sacrifice lease.

The leasing company is owned by BMW, so guess which cars have the best prices.........

I'm currently thinking of ordering the following:

BMW 320d M-Sport Auto with

ZVI - Visibility Pack - Auto dimming rear view mirror, Headlight wash, Rain sensor, Adaptive Xenon headlights, High beam assistant - £925

ZMP - Pro Multimedia Package - Navigation, BMW Assist, BMW Assist Online, Enhanced bluetooth, Full black panel display - £1995

ZIC - Interior comfort package - Through loading system, extended storage, two zone air-con, extended lighting, rear folding head restraints - £450

ZAP - Advanced parking package - Reversing assist camera, PDC front and rear, Park assist - £995

6NR - Mobile application preparation - £130

688 - Harmon/Kardon loudspeaker system - £650

4AE - Front centre armrest - £120

2VF - Adaptive M-Sport Suspension - £750

2VL - Variable sport steering - £375

610 - Heads up display - £800

Monthly lease cost for 4 years with 15,000 miles per annum is £648. No deposit required either.

Cost for a Superb 170CR Estate Laurin + Klement is £624/month, but the car is a lot cheaper to buy and doesn't have such nice toys ;-)

you could buy a house in Greece for that kind of money, why wast it on a bmw they are a bit like ants move some thing on the ground and there thousands off them all around you .

I am presuming that as it is a lease buy the manufactures price list for "tax" does not count then?

Correct. There is no benefit in kind tax as it's a personal lease with me being named on the V5.

The main benefit to me is that the lease price comes out of my salary before tax, thereby reducing the amount of tax I pay.

The only downside to the new scheme is the loss of fuel card. As I do a lot of personal mileage, this does result in a net loss. I spend about £400/month on diesel, but BIK tax was only £145/month. Still, I can now claim for business mileage at 45p per mile.

Where are you from & Do you get bad winters?

A RWD BMW will be horrendous in the snow / winter / rain / cold...

I did look at a 5 series and an E class Merc before i bought the Superb, but the 4x4, toys and price made me buy the Superb...

Al.

I've been looking at the same as you, the new BMW f31 m sport is a nice looking motor, common sense tells me to stick with the superb estate 4x4 as its such good reliable car that I really can't fault, if I was buying new now though I would have to choose carefully as the Surperb is due a refresh in the next year or two.

I've fully spec'd the new 320d m sport to around 38k,it's still missing lots of things that come standard on the skoda such as electric seats, folding mirrors etc. There are some cool gadgets on the BMW but like the park assist on the Skoda, would you actually use it once the novelty has worn off.

Also the thing that really narks me is the fact you have to have run flats, having owned a couple of bmw's I can say they are crap and screw the ride, on 18" tyres you are looking at around 230 a tyre compared to £130 a tyre on the Skoda. I wanted the 19" wheels but £350 a tyre is just binning money IMO.

BMW recommend adaptive suspension to sort the ride out, I'm not paying £500 to fix their ride issues.

Also where I live I would need winter tyres as I got bored of getting stuck in snow every year for the past 3 years, typical that I got the superb 4x4 and it hasn't snowed :0))

As said before if you get he right options the beer is a fine motor., Estoril blue is a lovely colour.

£648 per month!!

More than my mortgage!!!!!!

Do you know you have to take them to BMW to be connected to a computer in order to release the calipers to change the pads?

Wow. That's quite expensive leasing.

I've got a four-week old Superb Greenline Elegance on my drive. My nett monthly cost on the company salary-sacrifice scheme is about £350 - and that's inclusive of BIK. That monthly cost includes full maintanence too (tyres, road tax, servicing, repairs, etc) and fully comp insurance. All I have to do is put diesel in it. 20,000 miles a year for three years.

With cost differences like that (£300 per month) it must be about the badge or age because as you get older you do tend not to be too bothered about these things. :giggle:

Now here comes those that my not agree.
