Xenon HID retrofit

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like to fit HID xenon headlamps to my MKII Octavia they are so many kits on the market which one do you guys recommend? Would appreciate if someone can direct me to where I can buy from?

And I have heard that after installing the kit I will need to code?? Is this needed or can this be avoided?

Many thanks!

best is 6000k no higher , i got mine from ebay h7 kit there are companys that do them like hid 4 u etc,

i can do coding for them , im based in birmingham.

you have to be carefull with the canbus ones as they can damage modules

Touch wood mine are doin ok. What can they damage some can look for signs of this occurring

I would get a non canbus one and code to say it has xenon's the canbus ones cause far too much load on the electrical system. Get 4300 ones ( original fit are 4100) you may get pulled if higher, 43k is the whitest light, after that they are going blue get these http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2648

These are superior to others on ebay ( silicone cable ,metal base ,ceramic insulation ) most members I know ( who have bought a kit have bought here, mine perfect, quality superb )

These easy to fit mate? Also no issues with MOT?

When you say code, do you mean enable it with VCDS?

They are easy to fit quality product ,and yes you tick the box in comfort coding that the car has xenon's with vcds , I have passed SO FAR with mot, the center sett them up( beam ) after I installed them and passed 2 mots since, but, my m2 Octavia is ?DESIGNED FOR XENONS AS IT HAS PROJECTOR LAMPS , the UNITS ARE IDENTICAL IN EVERY WAY, IT JUST DOES NOT HAVE SELF LEVELING

What do they protect?

I thought that the FL Octy could not be coded to accept xenons? I remember another thread on here saying that.

The only way to install them was to have a "Canbus" set or run HID error cancellers on a std kit.

I know the Pre FL can but the new FL can't

The kit Gregie has posted seems to be the same as mine on the FL, 2 years fitted.

No VCDS codding done, the only thing I did was pluging the negative/earth directly to the chassis and not to original plug.

Sorry Projector g and T are next to each other

Yeah, nearly a year mine have been installed and not one issue with them, i actually used these in my civic before hand so probably about 2 and half years old and still as good as when I bought them. My next thing is the fogs but how the hell do I added them? Lol

im running the 55w ballast and 6000k give good light, with the 35w its more blueish

I guess the coding is needed to get rid of the error when HIDS are installed...How much can you do the coding for mate?

Would appreciate pictures of kits installed so I can decide what light output to get.

Not sure if you have a FL?

These are pretty good....http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649

With a 35W ballast I would stick to a 4300K or 5000K max....if you go for the 6000K with a 35W ballast you'll probably regret it as you'll get more light output from a set of good Osram or Philips H7's; have a look at this comparison;

Hi all,

We own two Octavias ( 2008 and 2009 models) ( Called as Lauras here in India) . I tried to get halogens converted to Xenons in my 2008 Octavia but to no avail. The HID kit I tried was Philips 6000K. The light continued to flicker and did not stabilise. On top of that the dashboard warning came continuosly on.

Questions

1. Is it worth doing the conversion?

2. Is it possible to do the conversion and if yes how?

Thanks

NKR

Use the search button to look for HID install etc -- this has been done to death now --from this year HID's will not pass a UK MOT now unless the car is fitted with self levelling suspension and headlight washers, but, like myself, it's your choice if you want to install them.

Mike, I suspect the UK laws & MOT is fairly redundant in this case: NKR is in India ;) ;)

What do they protect?

Oncoming drivers :giggle:

As Alan says, don't go any higher than 5000k -- I'm running 4300K in one Octavia, and 5000k in the other, both on 35W ballast. The best light comes from the 4300k

Mike

That's interesting to know. I used to have a set of 4300's on my 07 octavia Vrs, but they appeared to turn quite yellow after a couple of years. For this reason I had planned to fit a 5000k kit to my facelift Vrs. Are you suggesting this is a bad idea? Is there much to choose in way of appearance?

Holy thread revival batman!

4300K is OEM.

If they've gone yellow after a few years then this is likely to be a reflection on the quality of the kit rather than the rated output.

Ha, and there was me trying to avoid the standard, use the search function response..

I happened to use the eBay kit the majority of the users on here were recommending 3 years ago. I'll probably just go for the same for my FL.

Cheers

I reckon it would be worthwhile emailing the seller and letting them know about the colour deterioration.

A long shot but they might be willing to help you out with a new kit?
