bonnet release has gone - help needed

Featured Replies

I went to open my bonnet and its not opening, it opened yesterday but needed a good pull. i think i can hear something move up near the latch though, but its not releasing the wee pull handle. Anyone know how to open it without this?

cheers

Get someone to pull the bonnet as you pull the lever. It may just be something getting stuck.

Mine got stuck like that, get it open and soak the latch in WD40. Has never stuck again.

Ive tried with someone else but she just wont open. Is there another way of opening it, maybe from underneath or a wee trick needed to do it without pulling the lever. #

cheers

Does the bonnet pop up? Maybe you could try and get your hand around the grille and release it. Other than that I'm stuck. Could get a new grille from a breakers and break the one on the car. It's a bit dramatic but could be your only way if no one has the answer. Sorry mate. Good luck.

she doesnt pop up at all, thats very dramatic lol, suppose it needs must thoug. I would hate to do it and find i still cant reach the latch!!

try giving a bit of a push down on the bonnet as you pull the release to ease the pressure on the mechanism, then whilethe leaver is still pulled give the bonnet a bit of a lift to see if it worked

outside chance but worth a try, had it work on an old car

silly question, there is resistance when you pull the bonnet release?,

if so can you see the catch etc through the grill to try giving it a spray of wd40 or similar?

If nothing has worked, here's a suggestion. Take off number plate, make hole in bumper area behind where it was. You should be able to get your arm in beyond the elbow and then reach back and up.Not easy and, if your arm's big a small friend might asist. If you can get a picture of the latch to help guide your fingers it would be good, but basically your feeling for the square hole in which hides the pull lever. If someone pushes down on bonnet now it will relieve pressure and you should be able to release. Best of luck.

Mine did kinda the same.

The bonnet wouldn't pop up enough so the release could be used. Had to get my fingers between bonnet and lights so i could pull it up.

After opening, i greased the lock mechanism and it's working fine now.

Don't know if that is your problem.

Just an update here, thanks for all the good ideas chaps, but i had driven the car and arrived home and the bonnet had popped itself, must have hit a few bumps. tried again and i had to get my fingers 8under to pull up and she popped again, i have now greased the mechanism and moved the parts back and forth a good few times to get the grease in the joints and now its much better. The handle is still a bit stiff but shes popping the bonnet up when i pull the lever now so all seems good. Old dried up grease was my problem i think. Same was happening with my boot latch, had to push down on boot door for it to release, good slap of grease and some 3in1 oil and shes opening on the press of the button now.

Cheers folks
