1.4 pd egr valve removal

Featured Replies

I want to clean the EGR valve on my 1.4 pd engine code BNM. I've gone through the search engine and found plenty of good information but what I cant find now, but I'm sure I read somewhere before is that I need to do something with Vagcom when I replace it? Am I getting mixed up with setting up the throttle body on a 1.4 petrol?

Can someone cofirm that is is just unbolt / remove / clean / replace or not.

Thanks in advance.

No need to use Vagcom just to clean. It is unbolt etc. You do not need to undo everything whatever the guides say. Remove both side tubes and the vent on the rocker cover. Keep the clips on the tubes - much easier to get back later. The top two exhaust allen key bolts (ie the one fitted "upside down" into the underside of the EGR) if undone will free that pipe (when putting it back put the rear one in with the gasket out to one side, then when threads engage swing gasket round and put in front before tightening both). You will have to bend the exhaust connection pipe back a little to get at the horizontal allen key bolt at the rear. The vacuum pipe to the EGR can be left on if the EGR is fairly clean so that a bowl of cleaner on the top of the engine will do the job. Worth washing out the intercooler whilst everything is in pieces.

Suggest have hand cleaner, bowl of water/white spirit and a rag at side of car - once you start you won't be able to touch anything without leaving black marks!
