SKODA - A WARNING!

The following is my experience of dealing with Asur Skoda, 10 Terminus Road, Chichester, West Sussex, PO19 8TX and Skoda Customer Services UK, who do not publish their address in any literature!

I bought a new Skoda Yeti 2.0YDI 140ps Cr SE Plus 4x4 on 2nd Nov 2011 for the purpose of towing a caravan in my retirement.

. On the 12th of April, after only 3000 miles (and on our first major caravan trip) while climbing a steep hill in Devon, the car suddenly filled with thick acrid smoke. The RAC mechanic who was called, wrote in his report that the clutch pedal had jammed in, but that he had freed it and the car could be driven, but that it should be taken to the dealer in Chichester on our return. This we duly did and the Dealer confirmed there had been a clutch problem but no cause could be found. This was only a visual check however!

On the 5th of June2012 after only 5000 miles ( and on our second major trip ) the clutch burnt out completely and we were taken home by RAC on the back of a Lorry!

Skoda is now insisting that I pay £780 pounds towards the repair of the clutch!

I have quoted the Sale of Goods act to them and the “ not fit for purpose” clause but they are adamant that the damage was done by my “Driving Style”.

I strongly contest this, pointing out that I have driven for over 40 years, both in the UK and on the continent, covering way in excess of 500,000 miles and have never had clutch problems!

A clutch should not burn out after just 5000 miles. There must be a problem with these clutches and it is not me!

I will have to pay this sum of money as we urgently need the car for our next trip which has been previously booked and paid for. I am however taking legal advice on how best to recover the sum.

I will leave you to make your own decision as to weather you would buy a car from such a company and to please “Share” this with your friends so that as many people as possible do not fall into the same trap.

Many thanks,

Jim McAdams

Try another dealer!

Do you have the spare key? Just drive the car away if you can...

Have you involved Skoda UK?

Hi and welcome aboard.

Sorry to hear what is going on with your clutch problem and dealer.

You poor man.. that sounds like a frightening incident, and a poor dealer response..

You don't mention the weight of your caravan though - is it more than 1000 kg?
