One about front pads

Featured Replies

There's been a lot of threads regarding rear brakes lately but I took off a front wheel recently, just to check a tack that had got embedded in the tyre, so happened to be able to closely check my front pads, which I've not seen for quite a while.

I don't know how thick they start out but mine look practically new, after nearly 25K miles. How long do others seem to find theirs lasting? (This is on the 1.8 TSi model.)

55k and changed them before the wear light came on.

I today put my winter wheels on and for first time saw mine too and OMFG how thick????? My car is a 2011 with 6803 miles on it so cant be far off new looking will take a pic of them in a week or 2 when I change wheels back. I commented to myself those will last forever!

The fronts on my Leon lasted 69k miles- longer than the backs.

They do seem to last a really long time, i changed mine last week, just because i was bored of the feckers, familiarity breeds contempt and all that.

Interesting - the fronts are supposed to do most of the work ?

Fronts are pretty thick.

The rears are 12mm thick new.

Do you know something we dont?

At the time I asked a few Octy owners and they had the same. Mind you, one caliper was sticking, which saw then off, but the other side was well worn.

Not with 'mild' braking. Under these conditions the proportioning system puts most ofthe effort into the back brakes in order to avoid front suspension 'dive'.

My car was in yesterday getting the cambelt and water pump changed and skoda do this health check thing ad they noted my front pads had 60% wear and advised replacing soon. Car has done 31k but I must admit i do brake late and hard.

Your car is 4yr old with 60% wear so that's 10% a year. Sounds like a bit of a con to get more business to me. You've got wear indicators on the front pads too.

IMHO Skoda is way overpriced for brakes. I bought my own disks and pads from Euro Car Parts using the discount codes and had them fitted at a trusted indy. I was able to change ALL the disks and pads for less than the price of fitted front disks only at Skoda.

I got Pagid parts which were not the cheapest and I've found to be slightly better than the OEM brakes.

Pedant mode (60% worn over 4 years = 15% a year).

You've still got a good year maybe 2 on them, so I wouldn't worry too much.

FWIW, the skoda pads have ferodo stamped on the backing plate, so that should give a good clue as to where you might find them.

Any of th TMD friction brands make good pads too (Pagid, Textar and Mintex) and depending on what you're doing, some of the EBC pads are very good too.

Ah dammit, 60% worn not 60% left. Need to add myself to the intolerance thread.

Yeah I'm not to bothere about them just yet. Won't be buying brakes from skoda I know that much.
