My Trade In Wants A Service!

Featured Replies

Hi all

I ordered a new Octavia 1.8 L&K in January on the understanding that the wait time was April. Fast forward to now and my car is at the German port ready to be shipped and the service warning message came on for my Laguna III trade in. It's the equivalent of variable servicing with an "Oil Quality Sensor". There is no choice, this is it. It should be every 2 years or 18,000 miles. My first service light came on last August and now my second service light has now come on after 10 months. I have done nearly 20,000 in total since bought in July 2010.

What should I do now? My Octavia should be with me in the next 3 to 4 weeks. I am now in the position for paying for a service which I wouldn't have done if my car had been delivered sooner. How should I approach the dealer? I begrudge paying for an extra service when my car will have taken 6 months to be delivered and according to my car yesterday I still had 14 months and 9,000 miles to go . :(

Advice please.

Jonno

If the Laguna is being traded for the Octavia then do nothing.

Drop off the Laguna with the service light on and drive away in your shiny new Octavia.

The dealer will then either swap the oil and filter and stick it on the forecourt or they'll do the same as you and pass it on to an auction house ASAP.

As above , not your fault you have had to wait 7 months!

Thanks Silver and BlueVRS2

As you both say It's not my fault. I'm not planning to do many more miles, probably no more than 500 which is within the limits before Renault say I would have to take my car for it's service. I just don't want an excuse for the dealer to try and undervalue my trade in.

Again thanks for the advice. I can't wait to feel like a "proper" member of this friendly forum

get someone to reset the service light and pretend you know nowt!

National tyres were doing an oil change for £25 quid. By having it done it saves the hassle of the dealer rejecting your part exchange.

Not for Renault specific low ash oil for DPF equipped cars. I'm minded not to do anything as the delay has not been caused by anything on my part.

My L&K was due to a brake fluid change and service before the delivery of my new car, which was over due by 3 weeks

mentioned it to the dealer and said I was not prepared to pay. After much haggeling they agreed. So go for it.

But as you are getting rid, do you care it's not the right spec? The light is gone, the dipstick comes out with clean oil. Apart from you, who will know?

I wouldn't like to buy a car from either of you guys!!! :giggle: :giggle: :giggle:

Jonno - why not give the dealer a call and explain what's happened and see what they say to it. I would think they're very unlikely to want to lose a deal and be left with a new car because the deal has fallen through over a couple of quid on the agreed PX proce.

It's only what a used car dealer would do.

And many a main dealer who will stamp the service book and just do an oil and filter change before selling on.

me neither!

I wouldnt even worry about it, just plead ignorance, if you have a friend in the know get the light turned off, or is there some sequence that can turn it off on the car computer? I know on some VW you can wiggle the mileage reset button in a certain sequence and it turns it off.

A few years ago I traded a car in, a coupel of days before the deal was to complete, the airbag light came on, I had VAG-COM at the time so turned it off, took it to dealer, done the deal, then when I poped back into the dealer a week or two later they said 'wow you sold that to us just in time didnt you, as the airbag light came on we hooked it up and the whole system was knackered, going to be a grand to sort' so it happend all the time, just pleased ignorance.

By the way, my new car is coming similar to yours, mine arrived at the port at 5.30pm on Thursday evening!! Exciting isnt it!

If you're really bothered, go and get yourself an oil filter and correct oil from a motor factors and DIY.

If you've got a pela pump to hand, you can suck it out of the dipstick and not even have to get under the car.
