Head light switch on the way out?

Featured Replies

So, ive been here before with me Cordy, so i reckon im right, just want it confirmed.

On my way home from work on Thursday night, a few times when i flicked back to full beam having dimmed for trucks n stuff, the full beam didnt engage properly and would turn off, and so i spent 50yds driving by the fog lights while i pushed the stalk a bit firmer to get the lights on.

Is it the stalk on the way out, or might it have been water ingress somewhere, as it was a miserably wet drive home..

I know i had to get the stalks replaced on me cordy a couple o yrs back as the switch was fubar, and wouldnt turn the fulls on at all...

HAve the electrical gremlins found me or was this a fluke....

I had this at one point, main beam worked but when returning to normal headlights it just went to side lights...

The issue for me was with the stalk unfortunately, which is a pain to change as you have to remove the steering wheel. 2 things I did were spray electrical cleaner into the switch and around the connector at the base of the stalk. Need to take the cover on the top of the steering column off to get to the connector (easy enough, just 2x bolts underneath). Also, I found the connector seemed a touch loose, putting a couple of cable ties around it to hold it firmly also helped. The issue hasn't returned in over 18 months....

Otherwise, a good excuse to put cruise control on it  .

Hope that helps,

Rob
