1.4MPi temp gauge (Just changed it, but....)

Featured Replies

We have owned our Fabia for two weeks now (to the day). On the return home journey the temp gauge was up and down, a lot was dependent on the outside temp. So quick research on here and established that the thermostat and temp sender are common faults.

Purchased a new thermostat housing with temp sensor unit and fitted it to the car.

All appears to be working normal and once the gauge is at the half way mark (which it never did before replacing the housing).

My query is, just how quick the gauge gets up to the halfway mark!

It takes only 1 mile of driving and the gauge is up there! That is very quick imo. Never known a car to get warmed up (on the guage) so quickly.

I've not tested to see how hot the heaters blow inside the car (my fault, I should have done so) but the engine never smells warm and even after an hours motorway driving, the gauge is still in the middle, never goes over. So I'm not concerned about any other issues.

Is it normal for the gauge to go up so quickly? I have noticed that maybe the previous owner has put Radweld (or something similar) into the header tank. So I@m going to flush it all out and refill with G12++.

Maybe the radweld was put in due to the gauge fluc****ing a lot? The guy I bought the car from didn't appear to be knowledgeable about cars and engines.

its normal for the temperature to rise that quickly, my Audi is the same and is at 90 in less than 1 mile. its also perfectly normal for it to sit bang on the middle all the time, even down here in Andalucia where I am currently both my current and previous cars have all sat at 90c even with the external temperature touching 40c at times.

Ok, thanks for that input. None of my Audis have ever got up to temp that quickly, but as long as it is normal then I'm happy.

Just got the MAP sensor to change and hopefully that will cure the flat/underpower spot.

Thanks.

Dan

Yep working perfect IMO :) Were the Audis diesel?
