Anyone plasti dipped their wheels?

Featured Replies

As per title, would like to know can it be done and how long it could last etc? and could i put a primer on it first or what? Does anyone with a plastidip grill ever get stone chips?

cheers

No primer needed dude check out YouTube.

I would like to find somewhere in the UK that has stock so i can do my grill!

How does it handle heat would be my question...

From what I have just read -34 c to +93 c. I'm guessing wheels get hotter than grilles do.

Here's wheels being done

Also an 11 year old girl can remove it, lol

well found mate, 6 mmonths on the button too.

They have it back in stock now but what looks like £10 a can is actually £16.80 after VAT and delivery :(

Still if 3 cans is all you need, and the job can be done without messing it up, price wise stacks up quite well with a refurb and powder coat.

Interesting, I suppose your wheels wouldn't get much hotter than that

unless you were on track for some time doing a lot of heavy braking.

Got to say I like the idea of it being reversible. :wonder:

Group buy potential ?

There is a 4 can kit for all the wheels, with cards to separate rim/tyre.

Costs 69,90€ here and can be found online for 59€ (have two sets here, as my son also wants to dip his scooter)

Well 3 cans seems ample for 4 rims, 3 cans incl vat and postage is 40.80. 40 quid is a cheap refurb. If it lasts a year without reapplication then thats a winner. Its like paying your new wheels off for 75p a week.

hmm might have to do this myself while the car is off the road. just watched a few videos from dipyourcar.com on youtube and the have some good techniques and how to fix tears etc

Have you seen that stuff sprayed over matt black?

Yes thats the one i have seen. If i had any other colour fab than yellow this would be my choice.......how much would it cost to plasti dip my whole car matte black and then this colour rim?

Hmm I'm very tempted to give my wheels a coat of the smoke stuff. And then some of the gloss coat.

One has a bit of bubbling though. Does anybody know how many coats I'd need to get them true black?

I like the yellow, don't make it black. :-)

Consensus seems to be 4, at most 5, coats.

4-5 coats per wheel. Hmm, 300ml cans. Could work out quite expensive to do a set of wheels then.

Real reviews from people who did their own said 3 cans to do 4 wheels and three cans is 40 quid delivered. As soon as i lower mine ill be doing the wheels in the black.
