PAS warning light 2005 Octavia 1.6FSI

Featured Replies

I have a 2005 petrol 1.6 Octavia. Shortly after I got it in March the PAS warning light came on (amber, not red). The non-Skoda dealer referred me to an autoelectrician who reset the light but also advised how much it might cost to sort it out as the sensor can only be replaced as part of the entire steering mechanism. A week or two after that, the warning light came on again. This time the dealer referred me to a Skoda dealer who did a diagnosis and reset the light. They did not detect a specific fault. The steering has never gone heavy so the PAS does seem to be working.

The light has come on again. From what I can see on this forum, this is not an uncommon problem. I'll go back to the dealer I got the car from but is there an "easy" way of resetting the warning light? I have seen reference to turning the steering lock to lock several times. Hopefully the dealer will sort it out but given the cost this is going to be a battle. As I understand it, new rules re MOTs mean that even though there may not be an underlying fault, a warning light on the dashboard means an MOT fail.

I suspect that this topic has been covered elsewhere on this site but I cannot find a relevant post so please redirect me if this is the case.

Is it a mk 1 mate? I think the fsi is a mk 2 and dont think you could buy mk 1s in 05 only the vrs.

Hope you get it sorted. Have you tried the pas pump. On my car there is a sensor in it that can be removed but by doin so you will loose the fluid?

Wouldnt of thought you had to buy a whole new pump for the sake of a sensor.

I assume it's a MkII as it is a different shape to the last one I had. From what I can tell the problem is with the sensor rather than the pump and the sensor sits between the steering column and the rack and those three items can only be replaced as one component. At this stage just looking for a way to turn off the light by resetting if that's possible.

have you posted in the mk2 section?

If not pm an admin to move this as this is the mk1 section so noone will know lol.
