Octavia VVt Turbo cleaning

Featured Replies

Right, I have established that I have an "issue" with gummed up turbo vanes on my 08 plate Octavia 2.0 TDi, including a copiuple of embarrasing forays into limp mode!

My question is does any one of you fine people know where I can get the turbo cleaned out in the West Midlands area?

The "police sirens" are getting worse although I dont think iv'e ever been so alert whilst driving ! (only joking)

Are you meaning that your turbo is making a "siren" noise? If so then that's not good.

If it is just sticking vanes then you could do it your self very easily with some expanding oven cleaner and a few spanners.

Sorry, I'm jumping on this band wagon  How easy is it to remove the turbo from the car to clean it ?

You don't even need to remove it. You can get away with just removing the exhaust side of it and use a peice of card or something to keep the cleaning solution inside while it works it's magic.

If you did want to remove it and give it a complete clean then it's not too hard to do tbh.

Ok Phil, thanks

Thanks for the replies folks,

After the car had dropped into the limp home mode I discussed the issue with the Technician at the local Skoda dealer at the next service who found it had in fact suffered an overboost according to the ecu codes. Likely cause stcking vanes.

The sound im hearing is turbo whistle akin to the police siren description I have seen discussed on the forum.

I have actually had a butchers at doing the cleaning myself but Im suffering the issue of access as I have no facilities to dismantle the turbo myself.

Is the whine indicating an iminent failure other than sticking vanes??
