CAT died on Classic Felicia

Featured Replies

The CAT is in need of replacement on Classic Felicia 1300cc on a 2000plate. First, are the CATs made as standard or do they vary for each model, engine size, etc? With that info is it worth trying to find a second hand one from a breakers yard or will that bring more problems. If the breakers option is a goer is there anything to look out for on the CAT that would show it isn't worth the time or money. I live in Kent so any recommendations on breakers or suppliers would be very useful. Or does anyone has one kicking about that they wouldn't mind parting with for cash.

Many Thanks

the short answer is: buy a new cat for Felicia 1.3 mpi.

I think these engines can pass an MOT without the CATso an option may be to take the cat off and remove the innards of it and put it back on.

Probably go a little better too...

Might have a small increase in exhaust noise though.

Don't do this! unless you get a genuine one anyway as the aftermarket ones are rubbish and won't be working by next mot.

yours is likely to have the cat welded to the centre box so you will need to find one from a similar age felly 1.3 (1.6 is different)

and then either cut and sleeve it to your pipe or fit complete with centre box.

has it failed an emmisions test?

the cats don't generally give trouble tho so I'm going to guess at a dodgy temp sender or lambda unless thermal shock from all these summer puddles has broken it up.

As with a lot of these things, is worth checking the dealer price, sometimes buying new and shiny is only a couple of quid more than buying "pre-loved" and rusty.

Kent Auto salvage breakers yard always has a good 10 or 15 felly's if that's any help.

I have checked all the breakers in kent, no luck yet. Did try Kent auto salvage and was told they don't sell CAT's. I did check the dealer price and it was less than I thought it would be but still £316:84.

It didn't fail an emissions test, rather one of the pipes has come away from the main body of the CAT. Not sure whether rewelding the pipe back on is an option. The after market ones are a very last option, but as some have said the quality can be a bit dodgy.

They can make quite a bit of money selling the metals in the cat, just go down and rip one off a car.

Where abouts in Kent are you btw
