Thanks. I shall try to sort the motor out - if not, the Octavia I stripped today will be re-visited and the V71 motor removed and I shall replace mine to see if that cures that one. By my logic, the

The 4FA is the 01274 code in hex. If indeed the 7 is the shutdown code, then the shutdown is due to lack of airflow which may correspond to the faulty flap motor. I would replace the flap motor.

As before, hold the ECON and RECIRC down and turn the ignition on.

When you get the 4FA code press the temp button to see if there is another code. If you see 000 you know you have seen them all.

Done. No other codes.

I take it the radiator fans still don't come on when you request cold air.

  • Author

No. Fans engage,as expected with thermostat, when engine temps hot, but not when you select low temps on aircon.

In oder to try and solve this, i am going to visit a breakers.and get as many of the air con components to swap in order to try to get the faulty part replaced. Can anyone give me a full list of parts in addition to:

Climatronic display unit

Rad ran cntrol module

A/c compressor

High pressure switch

V71 air flap motor thing in glovebox

This is my last try at fixing this myself before i bite the bullet and pay someone

The temperature sensor G65 is a sensor and reads both low and high pressure.

The fan control module - must be 14-pin type.

Compressor - must be controlled by mag clutch - not proportional stroke valve.

Climatronic unit including display.

The heater/ventilation box that includes the flap motors.

I have thought of one more test you can do to confirm that everything in the engine bay is OK. There is a wire from the climatronic unit that leads directly to the T4 input of the fan controller. It's labelled 'c' on your diagram and is brown/blue. If you connect 12V to this wire at the climatronic connector, the a/c should come on. This is how the a/c is turned on for non-climatronic a/c.

If you get stuck, PM me

I have changed the Climatronic unit - no difference, and changed the V71 motor under the dash - what a pig that was, and still no better. Its clicking so still not working right, but I have spent £80 on parts already, and got nowhere. I have admitted defeat and booked in with the auto-electrician on Monday at £42 for an hr diagnosis / repair. Any more than that, and I will have to see if its worth the £££ to fix

Since changing things have you had it regassed? It won't work with no gas in it

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

Sorry to hear it.

After fitting a flap motor, you have to get the Climatronic to learn the settings for the new flap motor or it will click - try the procedure in post #42. Full VCDS can also be used to force a reset

If the 'c' wire test works, then if all else fails you can turn the a/c on and off with a switch.

System has gas in it - if i over-ride the compressor, it cools. Thats my next step - get it vacuumed and refilled. Being done on monday, hopefully that will cure it. Autoelectrician having it, so fingers crossed it will work.

If its the same as my alhambra, the pressure switch is a 3 way device, checking for low pressure and high pressure. Its actually 2 switches and when the pressure is in the correct band (not too low and not too high), both switches are closed. You should therefore see 12 volts on all four wires. Then there is (on my alhambra) a low temperature switch, which is wired in series with one of the pressure switches. This is normally closed at temperatures above about 4-5 deg C.

It could be you have refilled your system with the incorrect quantity (check the label in the engine bay). Therefore the pressure switch is protecting the system. If you overide the compressor with direct feed, then an overfilled system will burn the clutch out / squeel with belt slip as the compressor will be grossly overloaded or even hydraulically lock.

The G65 temp sensor on these, is a 3-wire device.

An overfilled system does not overload the compressor or cause belt squeal. These is a pressure relief valve on the compressor that prevents this (hidden under a foil membrane).

FIXED IT!!!! Or rather the auto electrician did. Turns out there was a corroded / broken wire in the loom under the battery. The wire between the climate control unit and rad control module had broken and thus no connection was going to the module when the aircon was powered up.

I have spent over £150 on scrapyard parts and the auto-electrician to fix this, but have learnt alot along the way, especially with the help of RWBALDWIN, without whose knowledge I would have probably taken a sledgehammer to the car.

If anyone wants a spare climate control unit or rad module or pressure switch on the cheap, get in touch.

On the plus side, last visit to the scrappy found me a black cloth armrest which looks great on the VRS. £10, bargain

So glad you got it fixed. You weren't that far from finding the fault yourself.

See if the scrappy will take your 'spares' back. They usually will (for less money).
