Question - Skoda Fabia VRS 55 - whining noise

Featured Replies

Hey all,

Been reading these forums for a while for information on various faults/issues over the years for my mark one Fabia VRS. However this time I need some advice, and couldn't find a exact match.

So here goes.

92,000 miles on the clock, regular serviced (10k and annual), no mapping, no mods and no major accidents with the vehicle or major repairs. Had the usual items replaced over the years, timing belt at 43k miles and last month oil sump and few other normal items.

Last night I was driving home on the A19 when i noted a whining noise emitting from the car, this wasn't quite a police siren noise but more noticeable than the usual whine for the turbo. However on driving home the noise suddenly got louder and the car then suddenly lost all power and cut out, about two minutes away from home.

I phoned the RAC, RAC guy said nothing they can do and towed me to the nearest garage and labelled it as a turbo seized. Surely if turbo goes, it would have put out smoke and be noticeable the power loss, not just a whining noise and then to cut out.

Anyone got any ideas, or is it sensible to accept what the RAC say and let garage get on with.

What sort price am I looking at? I know this varies, but a rough ball park figure on the cost for a replacement turbo would give me a good grounding.

Thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

You'll be needing at least a grand to supply and fit a new turbo

I'd imagine??
