Windscreen potential issue

Featured Replies

Car is not reached 19 months old & it looks like the windscreen is coming away, the car is always garaged when not in use, to protect it from seagull droppings & sat night drunken vandals.

Anyone reckon Skoda warranty would cover ?

Common problem on the Octavia, it's often referred to as delamination. Type that into the search bar for lots of similar threads.

Some have had it replaced under warranty only for it to return. Most people agree that it doesn't affect the screens rigidity so it isn't a safety issue.

Both my Octavia's suffer from it but it does seem to reach a point and then stop (it never seems to extend past the black border).

I considered having the windscreen replaced but sometimes it is more hassle than its worth.

In the end I got a stone chip and had to have it replaced anyway!

Annoying thing is that this is my 4th Skoda, I have had 2 x Mk1 Octavias which i had for 3.5 & 4 years respectively & didnt have this issue, along with a mk1 Fabia vRS which i had for 3 years & also never had the issue.

So my question would be why is it now a common problem on the MK2 Octys, they must have changed some of the materials used for it now to be a problem.

Cheap screens plain and simple the mk 2 and the FL has been scrimped on big time compared to the mk1's

I didnt want to change my windscreen under warranty as I was afraid that they will do more harm than good. For now I am ok with that choice as its been 6 y and delamination has stopped or its progress is very slow. But definitely its not a safty issue.

I'll be very interested to hear if the non-genuine screen you had fitted starts to deliminate like all the originals seem to.

No issues yet Mike but it's still early days...

Mine had a non genuine screen fitted about 18 months ago & alls well so far.

my rear screen has gone like this across the bottom

Mine too.
