camber shims on an octy1?

Look up camber shims on mk4 golf on YouTube or just google it

Just googled it and read through some other posts about these camber shims on mk4 golfs and they seem to say that they wear the inside of you tyre quicker than normal.

Is this true ?

it would have to be as the tyre will be out at bottom leaving a smaller surface area (inside) on road. Looks good, gives arch clearance, better corner handling, but straight line a bit of inside wear.

only better handling if you set the whole car up otherwise its just for looks and will cause more tyre wear

but does look good if running wider wheels and stretched tyres

Least you can find quotes mate..... They all moan down over ere :(

I dont want their views i just want ****ing camber shims fitted grrrrrr hulk smash

Deamon theives want £58 per hour plus £38 everytime it goes on the laser tracker to fit them, and all the others have said they have never done it before but will give it a go for £50 per hour.

Just running spiders at the moment but when its set up right im goin to find some nice bbs split rims on it.

mmmm

i thought the shims were to get rid of excess tyre wear? dont think ill be wasting my money on a set then.

i want something to dial out the toe in and camber so thetyres dont wear the insides as mine wears them way to much ne way.

they are easy to fit tho. just need a hub puller. a socket to take hub nut off and the socket for the stub axel bolts. easy

There is a guide somewhere on here on how to fit them isnt there!?

i have just read the eibach listing on fleabay and the way i read it it says it pushes the tops of the tyres out making them more upright so to reduce the inner wear.

check my build thread about fitting them. -1 shims will not mash your tyres, i ran them for over a year on my bora and tyres were fine.

as already mentioned, unless your going to set your car up to run with camber you will not see any gains.

if you scroll down on this page you will see -1 camber shims fitted to my estate. its the mk4 Eibach kit. Really easy to fit tbh.

I was wanting them like Gee's .... Is it not the camber shims that have kicked the tops in more ???

But yes.... As you read on ebay it does sound like billy says

But im sure they give you extra camber ?

yeh the camber shims do this to your car // ======= \\

Tops go in, bottom goes out. once you have done it, get the car Hunter 4 wheel alighned. (spelling) The feeling you get when you drive hard into a corner is the back is going to step out but it dont. it digs in and grips like an complete loon! that then coupled with lowering, and rear ARB, Polybushed wishbones, S3 upper and lower braces ect ect ect you will have a go cart! If you do not do the supportin mods, it will become to "over steerish". I fitted shims when waiting for my coilovers ect to arrive and the car was very twitchy. you have been warned! :)

How many miles to brizzle gee :D distance mobile arch rolling lol

Love the typed diagram :D

Whats the front lower strut brace ? Any pics or numbers ?

Links ? Does eibach do one etc

lol Phil!! im not that bad! hahaha!

Lloyd it was a S3 lower strut brace mate :)

So ..... Is that extra to the front arb then ?

Are they 1 gert loads

2 a git to fit ?

Yes it is extra to the roll bar, it stiffens the lower crossmeber up. They are not to dear if you can get a good used one on the bay. They are only two bolts - but this is once you have fitted the thread inserts. I have an insert gun, but I am told VAG also do them as a spare part, not sure how hard they are to fit if you go that route.

Thread inserts you say ????

You have to put something into the hole in the standard subframe to enable you to bolt it on and tighten it. My insert gun works sort of like a pop rivet gun does, but I believe the audi inserts are like collapsible top hats. Perhaps someone who has used these could give you a bit more info to help.

I do bekeve there is a name or 2 that pop to my mind to pester :D

Don't know who that could possibly be :giggle:
