How can I remove the fan grilles?

Since I got my vRS there has only been one thing that bugged me about the car.

There are two louvres on the nearside fan grille that stay closed when i turn the thumbwheel. It appears that theyve popped out of the small spigots that control their movement.

How the hell can I get them back in woeking order without risk of trashing everything?
