How much is a new wheel?

Featured Replies

After "refurbing" the one alloy, I've managed to make it a nightmare to balance up as I think I took too much material off when sanding it down. Also the second go I've had at painting it using the correct paint code hasn't gone as well as I'd hoped. It looks ok from a distance but it's far from perfect. As a result I'm wanting a new one and next time will leave painting to the professionals as I'm terrible at it. :(

How much is a new 18" Zenith? Looked on ebay and someone is selling them for £224, and this place http://www.theskodashop.co.uk/product/18%22_Zenith_Alloy_Wheel_1Z0601025M7ZS is selling them for £201.62 (no idea on postage). I assume that's about normal?

Cheers,

Chris.

The one you linked to (Horton's Skoda) is the cheapest 18" I can find.

Plenty of cheaper 17" ones, though not much good for you!

Yeah thought so - they're charging £10 for delivery so it takes it to £211 all in compared to the £242 they reckon is RRP. 17"s are far cheaper at £145 on Ebay. :(

Depends how patient you can be. I picked up a 17" Pegasus, brand new in the box on Ebay for £50, but it took 12 months of waiting for one to turn up :)

Have you considered a professional refurb? It will be just as good as new and a whole load cheaper.

Only consider http://www.lepsons.com/ They do stunning stuff to wheels.

Yeah thought about a pro refurb but I've sanded that much material off the spokes etc it's not just a case of shot blasting it and powder coating it unfortunately - as I say it's now a nightmare to balance needing over 45g of weights in one place to make it not wobble and even then it's not perfect.

A very expensive lesson learnt. :(

F#@K Me!!! What the hell were you doing? Angle-griding it??? :o I doubt that sandpaper would make that much of an impact to alloys that it need that much remedial work.

Why not give them a call and discuss, perhaps send them pics of the damage for their assesment. I'm sure that in 99% of cases they can do something. They can use lead fillers etc and after powder coating you'll never know the difference. Worth a shot - you've nothing to lose.
