Queries re Yeti Urban

Featured Replies

My first post in here so apologies if I end up asking any silly questions.

Picked up my new Yeti Urban 1.2Tsi just short of 2 weeks ago.

The one thing that has disappointed me so far has been the fuel economy - okay I know it's a brand new car but over the last 350 or so miles or motorway / 60 mph roads, I have averaged 39.9mpg.

I know that the computer isn't always accurate but at the moment I'm slightly disappointed with that although I am sure that as the miles increase and the engine loosens up that should improve. Perhaps I'm just expecting too much from a brand new car after moving from a 9 year old 75k miles 1400cc Golf.

Can't recall the mileage I've done since I zeroed the computer or what the range is still showing - will check and add in tomorrow.

Also noticed that when I bump the car onto the pavement to enter my parent's driveway there is an unusual sound coming from the near side front - doesn't appear with the off side front.

Also a slight knock when you brake while reversing - it may only be there for the 1st time you reverse each day as not always conscious of it.

Everything else absolutely great with the car - been more than happy with the Skoda garage in Glasgow I got it from.

Hi and welcome,

The knocking with the brakes is quite normal; pads moving slightly in the callipers with the change of direction.

Wife's Fabia 1.2TSI 85 only manages low 40's fill to fill and that's with 17k on the clock.

The noise I would monitor, if it doesn't settle down might be best to get the dealer to have a look.

Hope of help,

TP

A quick check on "true" MPG reported on this Forum and others - e.g. Honest John - will confirm that 39.9 MPG is about what you can expect from the 1.2Tsi engine; in fact you are probably at the better end of the spectrum. You should check the true mpg by noting mileage between fill-ups, generally the Maxidot is optimistic and your 'true' will be less than the Maxidot reports by up to 3-4 mpg. Not sure what you were expecting but a Golf should give you better mpg than a Yeti because of aerodynamics - a Yeti is brick-like compared to a Golf!

Heven't noticed any knocks from suspension or brakes, if they persist or worsen then get the dealer to have a look.

Hi I had a 1.2 se and found the mpg gets better as you put more miles on it, I find that trying to drive with economy in mind gives the opposite, I have found that ignoring the gear change on the dash and keeping the revs no lower than 1400 when in general traffic and changing up at around 1900-2000 gives good results (on both the petrol and diesel).

The knock from the brakes is only the movement of the pads in the callipers,(edit TP got there before me on that one)

Thanks for your comments guys.

I wanted the petrol Urban but did not want the long wait so went for the diesel instead that was "on the boat". Glad I did as the engine is a peach (so quite and smooth), and averaging 53mpg (Maxidot reading) over 600 miles mixed driving. I know I paid a bit more but should recoup a bit of that when selling (I hope!).
