Thought I'd post my experience as might helps the billions of other 2.0TFSI owners who use more oil than petrol...

I have started using 5W-40 Silkolene Pro Race as recommended by Tim at Opie oils and after the first week, the consumption as measured by inspection of the dipstick is about half what it was. I'd normally have to top it up from close to min every week, yesterday it was still nearly 2/3 full, and that was after a week and a half. Although it's set to variable interval, it's pointless running long life oil as it uses so much! I do change it and the filter every 10k though, mainly because most of my mileage is steady speed motorway / DC at sensible speeds, otherwise I'd do it every 5-6k

I too changed to 5W/40 but im using Triple QX from Euro Car Parts, it meets the spec and at around £16 for 5 litres (with a discount code) you cant go wrong! The car uses half of what it used to, still a tad too much tho at around 1 litre for every 1000 miles but I can live with that.

I contacted Opie for advice, and given it's remapped as well I didn't want to skimp at all. The Silkolene is one of 5 that Tim recommended, and was the cheapest per litre of them all at the time.

If your car us now using a litre / 1000 miles, and that is a 100% improvement, then before it must have been outside the VAG tolerance.
