Paint coming off rear bumper

Featured Replies

Noticed earlier that the n/s rear bumper has some paint coming off, close to back wheel edge. . As it's a white car it's quite noticeable.

Will get some pics tomorrow - anyone else had this and is it warranty?

I've just washed mine and noticed a bit of a stain on the right rear bumper just by the wheel. I will have to keep an eye on it as that area of the car was resprayed by the dealer because some muppet scratched it before I toom delivery.

I've had mine (MY2012) in for a front bumper respray, the paint just peeled off in big patches. While they had it in they noticed the front grille was peeling too so they got it back again to fix it. I posted this a little while ago, the photos are on this forum somewhere.

All repaired under warranty.

I had this earlier in the year...

Here's some pictures - as you can see there is some blistering around the area:

almost exactly the same place as mine (see post above) on the same side too.

they'll do a paint-check, to make sure it aint ever been resprayed, and will then get it booked in.

it's under warranty. - and not uncommon to the whole of the VAG group!

Thanks Al

Been to the dealer this morning who ummed and arred about it, took some pictures and are sending it off to Technical Dept / Warranty. They seemed to want to aire away from warranty claiming it was more than likely hit by something causing the paint to come off.

All very amicable at the minute, I've got the 2 cases above stashed away in my pocket should I need them! I now await to hear back from them and what they are proposing to do.

Let them umm and arr, and if they don't give you the right (warranty repair) answer take it to another dealer for a second opinion.

My own dealer umm'ed a bit until I told him (truthfully) i'd been to another dealer and they'd told me it was a warranty fault, it got booked in that day...

Sound like Skoda/VAG can't paint some bumpers properly, the problems of the bubbling and peeling on your back bumper mimic those on my front.

Good news chaps - dealer have confirmed that the warranty claim has been authorised.

Just need to contact bodyshop to arrange repair.

All a bit worrying - looks like there was no undercoat or primer on the bumpers. Bumpers are usually painted by the bumper supplier and not by the car manufacturers in the factory, hence why you often get a slight colour mis-match.

Not sure who are supplying Skoda bumpers but they need to pull their socks up. With no undercoat it only takes one stone chip and the paint will start peeling.

All a bit worrying...

Unfortunately, this type of thing is common throughout the VW / Audi group-range's.

Not just VAG. My last car was a Vectra and its bumpers we're a slightly different colour due being painted in a different place to the rest of the vehicle.

I've just had a second respray on my front bumper under warranty and the paint is still soft so I am waiting to here back from the bodyshop for further repair.

I have my white Superb booked in for a rear bumper re-spray. The edge around the boot ledge (it's a Combi) is showing a fine black line where not enough paint has been put on. I only noticed it after reading this thread so thanks to the forum for the heads up.
