folding rear seat problem

Featured Replies

Did a search and couldn't find anything to help, although i did see a thread about stripping seats earlier today. Basically, the problem with the rear folding seat in my SE is that when the handle is pulled to fold the seat, nothing happens. To fold the seat down i have to force the retaining clip up with a screwdriver for it to pop out. Is there any way to reconnect the linkage without knackering the foam and leather?

I can see it being expensive to buy a new part so if it's not an easy fix i can live with the screwdriver method, it only annoys me the now because i'm using the car to move stuff between my mum and dad's and my flat.

Do you mean the retaining clip at the base of the seat to remove the seat all together?

nah, it's the actual spring loaded clip that hooks from the rear seat onto the little post to lock the seat in the upright position. When i pull the handle, to fold the seat down flat, nothing happens. The other side works fine though

Mine did this the first time when I swopped over my interior. The rear bench had hardly been used and the the actual pull was really stiff. Just strapped with wd40 and forgot about it until I needed the back seats down last time and it worked first try!

As per my seatbelt thread, i finally got round to sorting this at the weekend using my second hand seats. Thankfully the rod for the passenger side still worked so i managed to seperate that out and remove the old one. It's not an easy job manipulating the rod out of place and the seat fabric and foam needs to come completely off the seat back. It was worth it to have the rear seats working properly for the first time since i bought the car.
