APR Stage 1 Content Inside!

Featured Replies

Well I finally have the new V2.1 APR stage 1 map on my car, after a lot of work on APR's side and a few journeys down to them its all sorted and I've been left with a beast, the car feels so much better. I originally had a TMC box which was brilliant but doesn't even come close to this.

The best bit is if you want to take it easy the car is now a lot smoother and more refined, but soon as you want to have a play it's a completely different car its so eager to go and maximum torque at 3k rpm means if the roads are slightly damp when you floor it the TC light spends a lot of time on lol.

I have the switching maps all controlled via the cruise control stalk, which mean I have a completely stock un-detectable map! not just a stock style map, this map is the original map. Map 2 is a performance 95ron fuel. Map 3 is the daddy 98ron performance map. Map 4 is a valet mode which restricts the throttle and power (not tried this one) As well as that I have a security lock out feature which means when I press a sequence of buttons on the cruise stalk the next time the car is started the throttle has no input to the engine, it just ticks over until my code is put in using the cruise stalk and the engine is restarted then the throttle works again.

So the bit you have all been waiting for POWER! my car has a K&N Apollo on and ran a 180bhp / 184 lb/ft, so spot on for a standard car.

After= 207bhp / 250 lb/ft... = :rofl:

Here's some graphs:

Standard are the faint lines and tuned is bold:

Tuned on its own:

So for anyone who is thinking about the remap, get it done!

I would like to say a massive thanks everyone at APR for all their hard work especially Keith, Evan and Amanda!

P.S. Before people say the WHP doesn't tie in to the fly wheel power, APR know this and know that the WHP is incorrect but the fly power is spot on, and yes we know that the fly power is a calculation of the WHP but it has been calibrated to allow for the incorrect WHP figure.

bang on the money id say, and even ignoring the figures, you have a previous TMC box setup to compare against, so if your happy that this is quicker and smoother, then thats all that matters.

I love the cruise stalk switchability, its awesome. Thats why an APR remap is more expensive, because you get a damn site more for your money. 100% OEM stock map, 95 & 98 Ron Maps(and race maps if you want one), then the valet mode, and the anti theft features, all switchable with a security lockout code by the cruise control system.

You cant get that with any other map!!!

YOu need to get a hybrid sorted now!!

very nice... what does the ECU look like? normal?

You wouldn't even know it had been opened mate.

On mine APR are replacing my ECU cage(including the shear bolts) which was left off by my previous tuners because they didn't have the shear bolts, cleaned up the marks left by previous tuners on the board, who had removed it for work, so from looking under the bonnet the garage would have no idea at all that it had been removed previously.

Although on mine, i have a 5mm long 1mm deep cut in the ECU casing where Shark removed the ECU cage sheer bolts with an Angle grinder!! Theres not much APR can do with that to cover it up though!! Its not in an obvious place though, so id still probably get away with it tbh.

Apr would be the way to go, but for us boys with no cruise (cause the stingy dealer hadn't spec"d it on their showroom car) then we have to settle for Sps with revo. But been 4 weeks now and I still can't wipe the grin off my face when the car takes off!

When did they release V2.1? No idea what I've got on mine.

if you were to get cruise control added/fitted, would you be able to go with apr then?

I'm very pleased with my APR map :D

That certainly seems the way to go. I had revo on my octavia with the sps unit which was a bit of faffing about and of course the extra cost of the sps unit. I have cruise so whats the cost of remap with the switching?

Glad to hear the map is working out well!

Cost for the remap with switching is £399 + VAT. Feel free to email me at [email protected] with questions guys!

The bhp is roughly the same as the tmc box but you've got significantly more torques than the tmc box which will no doubt make a big difference! With it being the same price as the box looks like its the best set for a genuine Stage 1 map!

Even ignoring figures (there's no before curve to gauge accuracy with the tmc figures) look at the difference in curves on a remap versus tmc.

At 6750rpm the power is still climbing with a remap. With the TMC power falls off the cliff after 5750rpm so with a remap you gave that extra 1000rpm of usefull power. Plus I don't think we need to even mention the different power deliveries, you cansee the difference, that's what you feel in everyday driving and iirc its the reason hayden swapped from his TMC in the first place.

No denying that the TMC boxes achieve the power though, its just pretty rudimentary imo, although the ease of installation/removal also suits some peoples circumstances so they alsohave a good place on here..

Oh no with out a doubt this looks the best stage 1 map so far and I'm glad these are out. I might be ditching the TMC box soon as I've begun to notice its not quite what I'm after so it'll probably be up for sale on here soon.

The smoothness of the power delivery is lacking on the tmc, I have a picture of the dyno run when I got mines tested,

You can see the differences easily from the apr to the tmc. The increase in power past 6000 and the torque delivery is much smoother as well past 3000rpm not to mention the drop off is noticable on the tmc box when you hit 5000rpm.

The spike at the start is to be ignored, the tester made a fubar while it was on the road haha!

If you go to them for a remap it will look as it did before you took it in, mine had a bit of research work done on the car, a snip here an there so mines a bit more detectable if they started digging, but to look at it its as it should be. Also a new cage fitted and new shear bolts , all covered by APR

This is it for me now, if i could get an intercooler cheap enough that would probably be it, but after having their Scirocco and Golf it seems pointless messing with this so my next one with definitely be a TFSI engine car, preferably 4WD so S3 looks promising.

You can have cruise fitted for about £200 i think then you have the benefit of cruise and the APR remap can be done.

It was developed on my car so i think if you went back for any tweaks you would get the new version.

As above mate, get it retro fitted and you can have the switching function. By the way if anyone was interested they can do a standard single map so no need for cruise stalk.

I went for the TMC over any remap due to fact the TMC can be removed, but with the APR switching i can put a standard map back on the car and thats pretty much the same as removing the TMC.

To be honest in everyday driving you will never need the power over about 5k rpm but for the price of remap vs TMC its worth it.

all looks good, another question though if I may.....

when you set it back to the original map, and you go to the dealers, and they plug it into the on-line system.... if there is an update (for example the cold start misfire update) the on-line system will update the map... (this is a fact, I watched them do it to mine on the 10k service)

when this happens, will it simply overwrite the "stock" map, or will it overwrite everything? when running stock, where are the other maps stored? if its in the ECU I would assume it would overwrite everything....

Im pretty much sold on this now. I kept telling myself i wouldnt need a remap until i have at least 20,000 on the clock. I remember having my Octavia VRS mapped and the fun i had and the smile on my face. Nottingham is probably the closest for me from Norfolk. The only issue i have is if the car went in to the main dealer and had for instance a ECU update reflash would the map need re-installing? Just it would be a pain in the arse to return.

That's something APR would have to answer tbh, no idea how they do what they do, but I'm sure evan could add some info here.

To be fair they only up date your map if it requires it. If yours is the latest revision then it wont update. If you have an old revision id imagine you would want your performance maps tweaked to incorporate these new revisions surely so me personally id ggo back to APR to have it redone anyway. They are always tweaking maps to the latest revisions anyway

Yeh if there is an update it overwrites everything, putting it back to completely stock! So you would have to go back to APR or the dealer and have the map put back on, APR would do this for free but not to sure about one of their dealers.

Their HQ is Milton Keynes so if I were you I'd go the there, yeh its a pain if the dealer overwrites it but once a year, if there is an update. You could make a trip out of it lol

I want this soooo bad!

Switching via the cruise stalk to different maps sounds perfect. SWMBO might also approve if it means she can still drive it as stock....

How easy is it to switch between maps using the cruise stalk and tell which map you are using? I clicked on the vid link showing the system being used on a golf but it didn't look that intuitive to me, seems you have to estimate how fast the warning lights are flashing on the dash to work out which mode you are in? Is it the same on the fabia? If so its a pity they couldn't make use of the MFD.

turn ignition on, hold the set button until the map you want flashes up.

1 flash per second = map 1, 2 flashes per second = map 2 etc etc etc

Ignition off, turn engine on and drive away. Takes no more than 20 seconds at the most

Its is so easy its unreal

Might have to pop round your end Hayden to sample the fixed map ;)

I first thought that about the video, but once you've done it a few times it's easy. As said, it flashes 4 times on each map so 1-1-1-1, then 2-2-2-2, 3-3-3-3 etc so you hold it down till the map u want then simply let go on the desired one, then the EPC light flashes to show you which map you have selected 1,2 etc

It could be a bad move for you mate you'd want it then lol.

How would you rate the performance to your TMC box? Any where near you with REVO? Would be good to see a direct comparison from the same driver same day with a REVO v APR shoot out. Ive driven plenty of both but just not on the same day so its difficult to compare them directly.

with this map, is it possible to forget to do the flashing numbers bit and just start the car? ie it just starts with the last used map?

all im thinking of is when the dealers have your car in and they try to start it up
