Looking to return to Skoda ownership

Featured Replies

After a few years away i am not looking at buying another Octy.

Initially i was looking at a 1.6 cr TDi. However i don't feel as though we do enough miles to justify the extra cost of the car. I am looking at used vehicles up to a couple of years old.

Anyway i started reading about the 1.4tsi and i was intrigued. Sounded like a good mix of economy and performance for an everyday family car. So tonight i had a drive of one. I was most impressed.

What i really want to know is what MPG are people getting in real world everyday driving. I was hoping to get into the 40 odd mpg's from one. Am i being too optimistic.

We have a Megane 1.6 petrol that the Octy will be replacing and really want to get better than the 35mpg it averages.

Any thoughts and advice is much appreciated

You didn't mean that, did you...."not buying" ? :giggle:

Doh. Was way too tired when typing that post. Lol. Just to be clear I am thinking of buying.

So any advice or recommendations?

I have had my Octy 1.4Tsi DSG for a little over 2 years and am delighted with it. I don't do much motorway driving so mainly shortish runs but am getting around 43mpg. The maxidot regularly shows 47mpg but that cannot be relied on, so I go by mileage between fills.

It has more than enough power for the size of the car and when needed a good burst of speed.

If you find a good one (if your buying pre-owned) then my advice would be to go for it. Over the years I have had all different brands of cars, but this was my first Skoda and it definitely won't be the last.

That's frustratingly impressive. My PD gets 50mpg sticking to a true 70mph on a long journey. Also getting up to 50mpg on my cross country commute. Fully laden with push bikes on rear down to 40 ish mpg on motorway/autoroute/autobahn.

My tfsi vrs, gets 25ish mpg around town but with a long run on the motorway can easily see 40mpg at 70-75 mph,one squeeze of the right pedal and it soon drops though

I have an update

Today i re visited the same dealership. This time i had a spin in a 1.6 tdi elegance. Now i know that it is slower to 60 than the 1.4 tsi by 2 seconds. But i think perhaps i prefer the way it drives. It really didn't seem slow to me. Anyway to cut a long story short they have a 1.6 tdi se in the showroom. Brand new. in red. The elegance one i drove was two years old and on closer inspection seemed a bit tatty. Anyway they have basically offered the 1.6 tdi se to me VAT free, with 3 yr free servicing for the cash price of £14449. It also has sat nav from the factory. I have got some figures for financing the vehicle via a solutions deal which i have also been offered £500 towards the deposit from skoda. The Megane we are looking at trading books at about £1750 but i managed to get another £250 so it equates to £2k for the trade in. They are also apparently knocking another £300 off the car as it has been in the showroom for 6 months and they need to shift it now.

Now to me this seems like an ok deal but i would like peoples opinions. I never expected to get a new car i thought maybe a two year old, so i am tempted i know its only the SE spec but as a family car it sort of ticks all the boxes for us. On the test drive i was averaging 60 mpg. lol.

Anyway sorry for the long post but would really like opinions on this please.

Thanks
