DPF Removal Octavia vRS TDI

Featured Replies

Hi. I am looking at an Octavia vrs and it says it's had the DPF removed. What sort of implications does this have? Does it improve the car any way or am I going to have problems when it comes to MOT times?

Thanks

Matt

Will cause no issues, in fact its proberbly and advantage. However if the DPF has been removed then the car needs to be remapped to take this into account, so will need declaring to insurers (the remap that is).

Hi, thanks for the reply, why do they need remapped?

To map the DPF out of the equation, otherwise it will be constantly trying to regen and the Check Engine light will be on all the time as it will think the DPF is faulty.

You will need the remap to exploit the extra pony potential too.

You should ask the seller, who did the DPF removal for him (or her) and did they have it remapped for more power at the same time (quite likely) or was it just a DPF removal remap?

Also worth knowing is whether the DPF itself has been removed and replaced by a plain pipe or has it just been opened up, innards removed and resealed (so looks like it is still in situ).

The main factor and benefit to you is that, at some time in the future, the car will not suffer 'DPF failure', due to it being blocked by soot and failing to regenerate, which results in a replacement DPF being required at a cost (rough guess) in excess of £750.

Final point; MOT? As long as it will pass the 'smoke test' you're fine.

Overall do not be put off.

With labour it's currently £1,000 to £1,500 which is ridiculous for a consumable.
