Shock Absorbers - which size?

Featured Replies

OK - MoT time is coming up and my 150K mile shocks are feeling a bit on the tired side.

Regardless of if they are a fail or not I am considering replacing them for safetys sake.

I have a PD140 (BKD) L&K Estate on a 55 plate - does anyone know if these are the 50mm or 55mm front struts - I seem to recall the 2.0Tdi had the larger diameter struts as per the vRS?

Thinking of Bilstein B4s and Eibach pro springs as don't want a hard ride, slightly firmer than stock is OK. The 30mm lowering from the Eibachs would be good as well :-)

Edit - I presume if I go with the Eibachs I need the B4s for the sports suspension (I guess they are a little shorter?)

PD140 = 55mm

55mm - I've just had my PD 140 (Ambiente) done with Bilsteins in this size.

Nick P (and others) advised me then and they were right.

Cheers guys - thought they were. If I go with Eibachs do I go fot the B4s with the sports suspension, or the B4s for the standard chassis?

How much harder are the B6's?

I've got the standard B4's on my Eibach springs and I can't say that I am happy or unhappy with them (I don't have any other experience to go on which might be why).

As far as the damping goes, it rides pretty much like it did before. Perhaps a little bouncier, but not much.

I'd like to know how much difference the shorter B4's (the sporty ones) would have made, but I suspect not a lot as they are essentially the same (but for drops over 50mm IIRC).
