Featured Replies

hi all

just after some advice on what this knocking could be, its coming from front end and driving me mad.

sometimes when i set off from stand still it knocks, when start stopping in traffic it knocks - random though, not always

i can drive down the road at 20mph and brake hard and it will knock but not all the time

i was going at 20mph put it in neutral and i broke and it knocked

right, what i have replaced to try get rid of it lol

Polyflex Front wishbone Front Bush

Steering Rack with new Rack Rods and Rack Ends

I took the dogmount off today, does it seem ok? or should i replace it with OEM/Super Pro

* how long do the Cupra Console bushes last and is there anyway for me to test they are knackered? these were done by previous owner, worth changing again?

** when i jack car up the bearings move freely when i spin the springs around

wheels have no play, i checked this today by jacking front up and checking the tyre like they do on MOT

anything else i should look at?

Thanks

yeh i thought about this but when moving the wheel around (or trying to) i got no play in the wheel at all, but this phantom knock isnt going to make it self shown very easily

might buy some ball joints they look like the original ones

does your do the exact same?

Sounds like the dogbone mount or an engine mount.

If you are stationary and rev the engine do you get a clunk when you lift off?

If you start to slowly pull away with the bonnet up, is there much engine movement?

thanks mate, il give this a try and get back to you

clunk from lift off its not all the time, i hear the clunk more while braking but just once only

i,e normal driving, coming to traffic, brake, CLUNK, car slows down, accelerate again, come to more traffic, brake, CLUNK

its never 2 clunks when braking, only one. as if weigh of engine is shifting when braking

does the pic of the dogmount above look shot? think i will change this first, relatively easy to do just need to decide OEM or SuperPro ones

Well sort of, mine is more if one wheel goes over a bump and I might get a bit of clunk or if going over rough roads. Im not to sure if its ball joints, but its the next thing to change...

Thanks. I had the knock prior to having the 312mm upgrade too.

I'll check it out. Would the pads be loose in the carriers?

Yes could be might not be able to tell just by looking you imagine trying to stop that disc from turning its going to be under some force it will be trying to move the pad in the same rotation of the disc and then when you let off the brake it will release it back

Changed the dogbone Mount to a super pro one and knock still present

I had it knock twice without pressing the brakes so not sure its the pads now.

Also yesterday whilst I was doing full lock left to right I heard a clang noise like a spring unloading. Just had this once.

Any other ideas?

Think I've sorted it..

Was having a poke around driver side wishbone and realised the front bolt wasn't properly tightened up. Must if been loose from when I had the front wishbone front bush polyflexed.

Torqued this up and now no more noise. Unbelievable

Test drive shown no knocks now.... hope I haven't jinxed myself.

Finally can go back to enjoying the car now :)

Will report back in a few days

Thanks for everyone's help :)

I have this noise and aparently its a gearbox mount? Might just go tighten all the bolts up now see if that fixes it lol

the pic in first post is the gearbox mount mate, also referred to as lower engine rear mount

very easy to check, 4 bolts and its off

the whole mount with bush attached is about £35 from TPS
