Clunk when engaging reverse

Featured Replies

My octy vrs has started clunking a bit when I push the gear stick Into reverse ? It's a quick loud clunk . But will only happen once , if I try to do it again , there's no clunk ! Ps . Only changed the box oil around 1000 mile agO

what oil did you use? normally mine will clunk if i engage reverse quickly, so i do it slowly and smoothly now. I believe you need an EP 75-90 fully synthetic that is VAG approved as the boxes are very fussy, valvoline i believe is one they dont like.

Its a syncro issue but not a major problem, many cars even crunch in reverse but run for many 1,000's of miles.

i used a 75w 80 semi syn i think .it was a cheap enough brand to b honest,,,could it be also flywheel or clutch related ????? both are fine in my car im just afraid it could be early signs

nah just wrong oil, go more vag approved. Either way i wouldn t worry, but change the oil to FULLY synthetic!!!! 75-90

wha do u mean by gear alignment??? sorry for my ignorance

they are cable run and sometimes need adjusting. put car in neutral and get under the hood, on the ends of the cables there are spring loaded clips, pull them towards the front of the car without moving the linkeage (hold it with other hand) when spring is compressed the cable can return to where it should be, release the spring and it will lock in again. Do that to both and see what happens
