Improving air flow to air box

Featured Replies

Without resorting to an induction kit I was wondering whether I could improve the amount of air through put to the air box and whehter there was any reason swhy I couldn't do any of the following:

1) drill holes in the lower grill on the air inlet side (presently blnaked off).

2) fit some of the corrigated hosing from the lower grill to the air box entrance.

3) put an air vent in the wheel arch to improve air through put.

Want to be discrete about the changes hence the above.

Cheers.

Adrian.

Hi Adrian,

There's a bit of info on 18turbo if you click on the intake link.

You could improve things by ducting more air with a pipe and maybe changing the air filter for a performance one (panel filter that is- not induction kit).

They reckon on 18turbo that making holes in the airbox will basically give you the loud DV pshhhht so if you were going to do that you would loose your 'stealth' mode - so you might as well get an induction kit ;)

Adrian, like your thinking - beginning to ponder same kind of setup myself. Force-feed it cool air from near the road. Not sure whether to change the original air intake or add this as extra.

Nick,

in chatting with Mike at Jabba and he suggested NOT to have any kind of piping from the lower grill as this would pick up all sorts of crap and feed it to the air box......unless you had some sort of filter at the end of the piping.

However, there is ome sort of air vent at the top of the grill/radiator and I/you could probably had some piping come off from there and feed to air box inlet.

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s Mike also reckon paper filters are the best.
