Locating testing and changing glow plugs

Featured Replies

Morning All

I suspect I have a dieing glow plug or two - smokey and sometimes sluggish start and can feel unbalanced after starting.

Is it possible to test a glow plug with a meter?

If yes, what reading should I expect?

Where do I find them? I haven't checked yet, but I just don't recall seeing them.

How much would you expect to pay? Any to avoid?

Thanks

Tom

Remove the engine cover and they should be in front of you running about 6 inches down from the top of the engine IIRC.

I'm not expert but I think if you have one glow plug going its best practice to replace all of them as you may kill new plugs when running them with old plugs. I could be completely wrong there though.

One of them is a pain to get out unless you have a long flexible socket.

I wouldn't have thought your glow plugs would be turning on in this weather though? Isn't it about 9oC they start to come on ?
