Range of questions mostly around Ignition Coils

Featured Replies

Good Evening Masses;

You have helped me with my Fabia before and I am hoping you can again because I have searched the forums and I am confused about everything. The Skoda is a Fabia 1.2 54hp on an 05 plate.

I have had an engine fault for a while which diagnostics garages have not been able to pin-point, the fault went away and codes stopped being generated, this was a while ago.

About 2 months ago Ignition Coil 3 (of 3) died and I limped 50mph through Hindhead Tunnel just to stop causing AM peak chaos. RAC attended and changed the part and said that the chances of any others going are remote, so don't bother changing the others.

Last week, Ignition Coil 2 died and I bunny-hopped at 10mph tops to park it up in a safe location. I had to go to work so a mobile mechanic took a look at it and replaced coil 2 and suggested I get coil 1 replaced as well, as I did not have the cash available I said it would have to wait.

So; should I replace coil 1? if so where do I get them from as Halfords (the only place I know locally) do not stock, nor can order them in. The ones on eBay that say "For Skoda", when I open the page then goes on to say it is not compatible.

Now..... I have also invested in a code reader this week to see if there is anything I can put this down to other than wear and tear; but none of the codes make sense together. I am not sure if there is more than one issue:

Engine: 17626, 16686, 17766

ABS: 01314, 18265

I hop someone has some insight as I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to car maintenance. Looking at the various videos and talk though on the web; changing an ignition coil appears to be quite easy if it is just that.

Thanks in advance

Darren
