Possible New Owner - Few Questions

Featured Replies

I also drive an auto because of problems with sciatica.

Just about to get a new Octavia with DSG also L & K trim. The engine is 1.8 tsi now withdrawn on the Octavia. I have read nothing but good about the 1.8 tsi so it seems a good choice for you.

The only two extras I went for were a space saver spare wheel and front reversing sensors as I find them indispensable on my Audi A4.

You have already mentioned the comparison with Vauxhall. Just to make you feel good, I suggest you compare the spec with the Audi A6 or BMW 3 series estate. I specced the Octavia against my first choice new BMW 3series, Mechanically they were very similar and the extras were the same but the cost with discount was £19,100 against £32,000. OK the BMW has the style and kudos but £13,000 is a lot to pay for kudos.

hope you enjoy you new car.

  • In my opinion, a spare wheel is a sensible option to purchase. I dunno, but not sure I'd trust that gunk you put into the tyre!

  • Does anybody know if there is a facelift model due anytime soon ? I asked at Hobin Skoda Manchester and they said that it would definately NOT be next year. Can anybody confirm/deny this? Dave

Thank you for all the input................I saw a Steel Grey car today and did not like it in real life - it looks loads better in pics at top of this page !

So now have to decide on a colour combination - anybody have any ideas?

Thinking Black car - cream leather - black carpet? or Storm blue car - cream leather - black carpet ?

Is there a pic thread on here anywhere of members cars to give me an idea - had a quick look but could not find anything.

Is the black really hard to keep looking clean - does the cream leather mark really easily?

Which pics at the top of the page??? If you mean those on the netcarshow.com website, they are nearly all Amethyst Purple.

The fact is colour choice is a very personal thing.

Mine is Rosso Brunello metallic with cream leather and black carpet.

To me it looks fab...but you may not think so.

Ok, for one you are going to cream pants when you get the DSG, it makes an auto look like something that should've phased out years ago, both on fuel and oomph, not much lives with the DSG off the lights,

Colours, I would say the Black looks I've got an Uzi in the glovebox anmd gives the car a wider presence

I like the Magnetic Brown and Cappuchino myself and would also try to get a look at the unusual one, Petrol Blue, although Storm looks nice as well

The red is nice but only in the right light, the metallic fails to show sometimes, it's a shade too dark for my liking and not sparkly enough, can look like plain old burgundy at times,

Leather, I like light grey or a maple beige myself, if you went for the browns I would go brown inside as well if it's available, black shrinks the cabin the lighter shades push it out, hth.

Having owned a SAAB 9-3 with a beautiful beige interior, I swore I'd never go Back to Black. However, an unmissable deal came along on a Black Magic Pearl 1.8TSI with onyx leather interior, so now I'm Back in Black. And, do you know - song titles notwithstanding - I actually like it. It looks brisk, functional, sharp, elegant, business-like and - with the chrome/brushed aluminium detailing - high-tech. It seems a younger man's car, somehow. Like Superbia, I can convince myself I'm a member of the Serbian Mafia, driving a Teutonic uber-limousine. Which is nice.

I am leaning towards the Storm Blue with cream leather and black carpet - just wish I could see one first.

I have a black Insignia now with black interior - bit dull and fancy a change.

Hopefully off this morning to place order............still not 100 percent on colours - maybe black with cream interior? Arrggghhhhh !!

Dave

Get them to show you the swatches, the brochure colours are way off.

I'm afraid the swatches would not have helped as I am colourblind........so went off what I thought would look ok - went for storm blue, the light leather interior and black carpets.

Added

Park Assist

Heated Windscreen and Washers

Electrically Operated Tailgate

The levelling boot floor

Keyless Entry/Ignition

Luxon Alloys

1.8 Petrol / Estate / Elegance Automatic hill start comes as standard on these.

Hopefully here by the end of October - guaranteed trade in value for my car (with the option to sell it privately beforehand if I get a better offer) -and bizzarely I was accepted for the Skoda 2 years interest free credit deal - this is really strange as being self employed its usually a NO to anything like this even though I have a good credit report I just don't take any credit/loans etc so they usually have nothing to rate me on.

The DEALER was excellent to do business with - I am not going to name them yet until the car is delivered - but suffice to say HOBIN could learn a lot from these guys.

Now I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone - will this display text messages on the sat nav etc? I am thinking of upgrading to a S3 - how do these combinations of phones work with the Columbus?

Sorry - my bad, you did mention that earlier. Thought it might be useful info for others as well though. I was surprised just how far out the brochure was. Amethyst Purple is actually quite good looking in real life!

Hi both the s2 and s3 work fine, well mine do anyway on a 2011 model

Thats great news..........am I correct in thinking that the car "reads" text messages to you whilst in motion ?

Also if I stream an internet radion station on the phone via "tuned in" app then can I listen to it on the stereo - my phone displays a picture of the artist and track info - would the columbus display this?

Dave

Amethyst Purple and Ivory is what I have...I think it's a great combination...it's a very personal thing I know, and many would disagree, but it's no surprise to me that Skoda used 2 Combis in Elegance trim in this colour combination for 95% of their original launch photos.

Did anybody take the "paint protection" with the certificate of guarantee?

Is it worth it - does it actually do anything?

Dave

Hi, take your time choosing the colour, I got mine in aqua blue and hate it....

Love the car but when I ordered back in Dec 2010 there weren't hardly any estates around especially in aqua blue, I went from the sample colours....:(

I saw an elegance l&k in white at good wood, looked so much nicer, I also see a couple in black and the champagne colour I like.

This is completely my fault, I'm just saying take your time so you don't end up like me, I was considering chopping it in for an l&k but its not financially worth it. They will probably also release a new one in a couple of years

Hope I'm happy with the storm blue and the light leather - child seat going in the back of the car so will seek out a cover to put in before car seat goes in so no damage to leather.............

Any answers to my paint and radio/text message questions above?

Also am I correct in thinking the rear view mirrors dip whilst reversing?

Dave

if your phone is connected via rsap the maxidot tells you there is a new text message and using the phone menu you can get the car to read you the text. this only works with the female voice in my car.

The passenger mirror dips if the mirrior switch is set to this mirror and you have memory seats

Hi - sorry to go on about this - do you have to "force" your phone to connect by rsap? Is internet radio still accessible if you connect by rsap - does all this info dislay on the columbus display - for example if I use tune-in app on my phone - on some stations it displays a picture of thecurrent song playing along with artist info etc - is this displayed on the head unit in the Superb?

Dave

I have a Blackberry 9300 and it is set to rsap and always connects this way

Can you still stream internet radio this way?

Dave

Nope, the phone is shut down as a phone.

The car becomes the phone, and uses the aerial on the roof.

The phone becomes a dumb device.

Ah............so its either - have text messages read out (connect RSAP) or stream internet radio through columbus (connect via bluetooth?)
