The Yeti TDI 4x4 comes second in Glass's Guide's Top 10 lowest depreciating cars (published today), with the Octavia TDI in 4th place. In fact, 7 out of the 10 are diesels - interesting that the recent much-trumpeted Which? "petrols cheaper to run than diesels shock" report didn't actually factor residual values into their calculations, for some bizarre reason.

For the record, our Yeti cost about £500 more than the petrol version and is now worth £1.5k more - the XF cost £1k more than a petrol and is now worth £4k more.

The Yeti picture even gives us a sneak preview of Ruth's new Yeti which is being collected next Saturday (Candy White with Annapurnas)!

Whilst excellent news, this is something I've definitely noticed that isn't that beneficial to me!

When my trusty Fabia turns 10 next September I have my heart set on a Yeti Elegance - either the 1.8 petrol or the 2.0 170 TDI, but realistically £10-12k will be my budget if i buy second hand, and even the very first 2010 models are only sneaking into the 15k barrier at the moment...

...I'd consider buying new if I could get the credit, but no insurer would ever let me given the fact that I'd "only" be 23, and therefore obviously guaranteed to wrap it around a tree...

You might just get a leggy 1.8TSI or even a TDI (the 140 is a lower insurance group but still no slouch). Also, given that there should be a few coming off 3-year leases or PCPs by then, and the fact that the new Yeti tap seems to have been turned on a bit more recently, by September the residual values might start to soften a bit.

Skoda Yeti is the best for reliability

Which? names the most reliable new cars of 2012 - with a budget 4x4 scooping the crown of Britain's most dependable car.

A modern car that's less than three years old shouldn't go wrong, right? Not so, according to the 2012 Which? Car Survey - there can be a huge difference between the best and worst car models when it comes to reliability and faults.

And don't assume that if you pay a lot of money for a new car that it will be problem-free. In fact, our survey of 47,716 cars demonstrates that, in some cases, exactly the opposite applies.

Skoda Yeti: the most reliable car of 2012

Budget brand Skoda tops our dependability chart, with petrol versions of its Yeti compact 4x4 chalking up an almost faultless score of 98% (the diesel Yeti scores 93%). Surprisingly, another petrol 4x4 follows in second place - the Honda CR-V.

Languishing at the other end of the new car reliability table is a rather more luxurious 4x4 - the Range Rover Sport. Despite costing nearly £50,000 (to the Yeti's £15,000), it can muster only a paltry 63.4% for reliability.

In third place is the diminutive Citroën C1 city car - the most reliable supermini for the second year running.

Japanese cars dominate

Overall, five of the top 10 models are Japanese, with the remaining coming from France (two), Germany (two) and Czech Republic (one).

Two hybrid cars also make the top 10 - the Toyota Auris Hybrid and Honda Insight.

That was my plan....did/does the 140 come without the DSG box? I'm not sure I'm keen on the idea as I don't think it'd suit my driving style....

Kitten and I wanted the DSG gearbox when we ordered ours, and when we collected it Sept 2010 it was the FIRST auto DSG in the country because when we made enquiries in March '10 we were told it wasn't an option, but Skoda were introducing it. :rock::D
