Failed MOT

Featured Replies

Well the octy failed its mot on thursday. Well gutted.

The main problem is my emissions are sky high. My co %vol reading is 4.834 and the max is 0.300. And the second reading was 3.908.

And the reading from the lambda is 0.873 and should be between 0.970 and 1.030.

It also failed on a couple of other minor things such as a headlight aiming to high, a rear brake pad sticking, and my brake pipes not being supported properly.

The guy who is sorting it for me ha said the problem with the emissions could be a dodgy remap as it is running too rich ? I have someone going to put it on a computer monday to see if he can figure out what is wrong with it.

Any ideas ? Not sure if it has a decat on it as i haven't been under it.

Thanks in advance

It is running very rich (lambda < 1). Running rich will give a high CO.

Yeah it smells really petrolly in tick over and cinsumption is averaging 27-29 mpg.

A faulty pre cat lamda will cause you to run rich since it dictates fuelling by monitoring the exhaust.

Sounds daft ut you don't have any leaks in exhaust system anywhere do you as that can upset emmisions aswell

Happened to me too.

Eventually got under the car and there is no cat on it, explains the mot failure.

After a lot of searching on the internet to find cats i have decided to book it into demin tweeks tomorrow morning to have a custom exhaust system with high flow sports cat.

Not bad for £550

I hope they will guarantee it passes the MOT!

Thats a good price, thats fully fitted including VAT etc?

Well had my exhaust done today. Took about 3.5 hours to do and it looks good.

Ended up costing £570 all in.

good price,any pics?:)

And CO level sorted as a result?

sounds like something to tell the wife so you can get a new exhaust system. A "special low co2 exhaust, with MOT spec emissions regulator fitted already - so thats another saving".

Well the octy has failed again on emissions. I have spoke to a speciallist and he thinks it could need oil and filter change because its been running rich too long.

He also said it could possibly be maf sensor. He hasn't got time to long at though as he is too busy and can't recommend anyone else to use either.

If it fails again after that then i don't know what to do.

Any other suggestions ?

Same you're not near me, when my octy went for an MOT last year according to the emissions sheet my octy went back in time by 4 days and got it done lol

Failed emissions again this afternoon after oil and filter change.

Don't know what to do now apart from to it to skoda and ask them if they can sort it.

MAF/LAMBDA/MAP sensors are 3 possibles. ECU reset could help. Those 3 sensors all in would have cost half that of your exhaust.

Have you had it mapped since last mot?? If not this sensor trio usually covers it.

Could be a dodgy map though

What are the emissions readings?, you should have a print of each test.

Is a sports cat up to the job?, what are the specs for it?

Had a good test the first time, for the tester not to notice a missing cat, which would have been a fail in itself.

his readings were uber high, more than a cat can ever handle IMO

The readings off the first test are in the first post, the second test are exactly the same and the third it had come down by 1% i think they said.

It is going into skoda on monday for them to look at it. Surely they should be able to get to the bottom of it.

It was remapped by someone in leciestershire before i bought it and i haven't had it mapped.

The guy i know who does mapping said he can't do anything with it because he hasn't got the original file off the ecu.

has it passed an mot on this map before? If not it may be a new ecu then, or send it away to have it repaired and returned, as without the original map it cant be properly mapped again, at least i dont think so
