Tyre noise, distorted tyres?

Featured Replies

At motorway speeds I'm getting thrumming wop, wop, wop noise from the front of the car.

It goes away as speed drops and is still there if the clutch is dropped, so it's not engine speed related.

Been told it could be distorted tyres.

And how much of a problem are distorted tyres anyway? They look fine and have plenty of tread left on them, but I'm keen to avoid a ditch/car interface scenario.

What do you think?

could it be a bearing?

What tyres are on as some are more prone to sawtoothing than others

If they marangoni tyres then they ate famous for it. I have two from the prevoius owner and I get that noise. In just hoping mine wear out over time or though they seem to be fairly hardy things lol

Was out in a friends car today. What started as a bit of a noise and vibration turned into severe shaking of the whole car, and a stop on the hard shoulder ....

PS. Distorted tyre, was totally misshapen.

Sawtoothing was the cause of my similar problem, i fiited 2 wheel hubs before tyre dude diagnosed them

I had avon V pattern tyres, my tyre dude said these get it more

Binzie,

I've had the sawtooth on standard style tread (pirelli pzero nero) and the 'v' style tread (Toyo Proxes t1-r). Not sure what to get next.

The sawtoothing gives a noise like a wheel bearing, a constant whirring, rather than the wop-wop noise as described in the op.

Are the tyre pressures correct?

Ha. Thinking Kumho or Falken next time, the rears don't get much asked of them.
