FL VRS with Bolero - cheapest way to add Factory BT+

Featured Replies

Morning,

Picked up the VRS on Friday and loving it, I can just about squeeze into the space that my A3 ocupied in our garage, which will help to keep the paint in good shape :)

I need to add bluetooth to it to work with the Bolero head unit and in the future a Columbus when I pick one up.

What is the best way of doing this ?

Many thanks

Paul

Car is a September 2011 Petrol Manual VRS.

It's possible to buy the bits you need and do this yourself - if you do a search you'll find the details somewhere on here.

I'm a lazy git so I just got Richter Sport in Milton Keynes to put a Fiscon in for me. It's identical to the OE kit in terms of functionality, but for me, just drive-in drive-out no messing around. Prob would have been cheaper to do it myself but there's always the risk I would have broken something! IIRC it was c £300 fitted?

Ordered a retrofit kit from carsystems.pl in the end, just ordered it and they have given me the UPS tracking for it already.

Went for this kit (total shipped 211 Euros) http://www.carsystems.pl/vw-bluetooth-kit-7p6035730f-retrofit,id218.html

Hopefully it will be here in time for me to install it this weekend.

I'll let you know how I get on.

I did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago for a new FL VRS and it works a treat. Do you have access to VCDS to activate the telephone option?

Yes its in the spec:

VAS / VCDS Coding after installation required

Yes full latest VCDS HEX+CAN USB Cable.

Already taken a baseline coding scan of the car and re-coded a few things in the Central Electronics Module.

Selective Unlocking off, Anti-Hijack On, Comfort by key-lock disabled (never trusted it since the MarkIV Golf security flaw), comfort closing with rain sensor and tear-drop wipe on the rear washer.

Looking at the cluster prices, I suspect that a retrofit of Maxidot will be one the cards if the MasterTech at my local dealer is up to the job. Then a non-DSG VRS multifunction steering wheel, then at the end a Columbus Sat-Nav. All followed by a custom ICE install with the Columbus as the source head unit. You are supposed to be able to code the speaker outs so that they convert to line-outs.

Well the kit is now in and working, was a bit tricky at the head unit end as there is no space behind for the where their loom connects to the original car loom. So got it all in and test and then couldn't get the Bolero all the way back in. So lots of head scratching followed, then I removed the top storage cover/central vents and was able to manoeuvre the loom so that the stereo would go back in. I did also need to separate the aerial feeds from the main loom.

Works well, just the irritation of the Mobile Box label that can't be changed on the phone page on the Bolero.

I wrapped the mic cable in some sub box carpet that I had kicking round the garage and loom tape, to hopefully keep it quiet on top of the roof-lining . I also covered the Styrofoam that the module sit in, with the same carpet to make it look better if the passenger seat is ever moved right back.

Successful Saturday really.

Also discovered that I will need a new steering module to go multi-function, so that is totting the price up a bit.

So looks like my upgrade order will be, Columbus, Maxi-dot then Multi-function steering wheel.

Tested it yesterday at 70 on the concrete section of the M27 near Southampton and the call quality was good both ways, so successful retro fit.

I got my columbus from ebay last week for £340.

The thread you need to read ref the MF wheel is here:
