Coli pack failed by sounds of it, was engine warning light flashing

Forgot to say, the engine light flashed as I was driving, went off when I pulled up

Sounds very much like coil pack mate exactly same happened to my octavia vrs last week the coil pack on cylinder 4 just suddenly decided to stop working lol i knew about the recall so booked it straight in at skoda and all 4 where changed free of charge :)

eggy sulfur smell Is often linked to a failed cat if I'm not mistaken, collapsed could possibly cause similar issue and would refuse to rev up properly. but as said above coilpack is more common

When was the recall, and how would you know if your car has had it done? I thought coil packs were just one of the idiosyncrasies of the vRS?

It was a fault with the vrs that was recognised and the recall was sent out quite a few years ago :) Call skoda service nearest to you give them your reg providing you have a vrs lol and they will have it on system if its been done previously or not..

A sulphur smell can also be from a battery normally when overcharged though :S

Rox it can be mate if the alternator is faulty and over charging the battery it will boil it and cause a sulphur smell yes but when a car is misfiring like he said it is it will make a sulphur smell too as it is slowly damaging the cat..

Did you get it done under recall mate?

Did you get it done under recall mate?

No not yet, I did phone them and they said they would have to do a diagnostics check as it had a fault and wanted to charge me £82 for the pleasure!!!!!!! Stuff that, so I got 1 off a friend with a garage, checked them 1 at a time, and now I,ll book it for recall as it hasn,t got a fault. I,m not paying £82 an hour

I don,t want them to stick it on there computer as they will find out its been re mapped and may say we aren,t changing the coil packs lol

Cheers chief :)

I'm sure there was a recall not so long ago for the coil packs again.

Got mine done free of charge at a dealer as they were in the serial no. range for the recall. No £82 charge. Thats crazy!

My 130k vrs had them done free was well pleased lol

Sent from my Galaxy S2 not a Crapple!

They cant tell its been remapped off diagnostics mate not the fault code readers like most garages have anyway.. But yea i dont blame you not paying thats rediculous lol and surely when they found out it was the coilpack at fault when they pluged it in they shouldnt be allowed to charge you as its covered under free recall?
