Thinking of ditching the tuning box and go for a remap

Featured Replies

At the moment I have one of these on my vrs, Cant really fault it as the car goes really well. My friend is the UK director and its convenient to get easy tweaks when needed. I dont know what sort of power im running but i leave my mates standard vrs pretty well, and it is much more aggressor coming on boost.

Its all set up via laptop out on the road so its setup to how i want to drive.

But now im starting to think take this off and go get a proper remap, maybe from jaba as they are on my doorstep, They will be able to match the power of this? if not make it better?

how much would you sell the box for?

Remaps are obviously better but tuning boxes do have there advantages!

Oddopends what you ask for in terms of map, some mappers can get you loads of power and not alot of economy or vice versa, they "should" beable to get you to 170bhp and 300lbs/ft of torque comfertably and it would still be safe!

The reason I went for the box, obviously because i had free service and tweeks ect, if and when i got a FMI I could have it tweaked again ect.

I dont care about economy, Any one know what jabba charge? is it a proper map to suit the car and not just a common flash (if you know what i mean)

Depends about your wallet I think its like 250-300 for standard stage 1/2 maps but they also have a custom map specially suited to the individual car, based on the mods etc here they will tweak to the finest detail. But your looking around 500 for that I believe

well I can do 500 if it means better results but not going to pay that for like no noticeable gain from what the 250 one would

If its been tweaked properly on the road then there shouldn't be any reason why you would change.

Most stage one maps are just loaded and off you go. Whereas at least yours as been tuned for you car.

I'd save your money to be honest.

All the boxes I've seen only increase fueling across the whole rev range. A remap you can have it altered at set points. So say 5% at 1750rpm, 20% at 3500rpm.

If done correctly the ecu still knows how much it's injecting. So when the ecu request 50mg it gets 50mg and also the timing for 50mg. Instead of asking for 50mg but gets 70mg of fuel and 60mg timing (timing maps only go to 60mg in a stock file).

Also with a remap you can alter the turbo related maps unlike a box. With a box the turbo pressure is increased due the increase in fuel. With a remap you have control of the N75 map which controls the VNT.

So overall you might not get more power with a remap but if it's done properly then it's not a bodged job :)

^ ^ ^ ^ Man who knows what he's on about :)

Faboka is absolutely right - the tuning box is limited in what it can change, wheras a map is much sweeter.

I ran a Dragon Digital tuning box on mine for about a year with no issue, and loved the extra poke.

However, when I ended up splashing out on a Shark remap there didn't seem to be a lot of power difference, but the biggest difference was the smoothness of the proper map - It is just pure bliss to drive now.

Do it, you won't regret it.

YES I AGREE
