DOH...left my wallet on top of the Yeti

Featured Replies

Was in a rush this evening, so went to the local Tesco to fill up the car - gob smacked about the automatic pump stopper (you put in a amount you want to fill up and it stops at the amount you set) and left my wallet on top of the Yeti...

Some 20 miles later, I went parked outside a shop looking for my wallet, realising I left it on the car's roof! DOH...

Went crazy and drove back to the original petrol station as soon as possible and realised the 1.2 TSI is actually fast enough!

Arrived at the petrol station expecting nothing has been handed in and there was my wallet! The staff noted a nice gentleman who was filling up after me picked it up and handed it in, just want to know who he is so I can thank him! So surprised and happy, was prepared to spend 2 hours sorting out the lost cards and IDs etc.

Lesson learnt and crisis over, decided to donate the money I have in the wallet to tomorrow as I expected total loss anyway!

PS It was in Wolverton Tesco, just in case it is anyone who uses this forum!

You got very lucky there! All they'd get out of mine is moths and lint... :D

LOL, work is currently supporting Marie Curie and matches my donation, might be a good idea. Anyway all I had was Euros in there! I was expecting total loss and the wallet was a present so was doubly annoyed when I found out. I guess I had way too much in my mind ....

Great gesture there by the gentleman who left your wallet at the store and a great gesture by you to have donate the money to charity.

Was in a similar situation some time ago when I had left my Wallet in an ATM and walked out when the Machine had failed to dispence money. After having walked back home did I realize my wallet was missing. Just then I get a call on my landline from a person informing me that my Wallet was with her and I could come back to the same ATM and collect the same. My Wallet did not contain any of my latest contact details, only a phone number on my DL which was more than 15 yrs old and non-functional. She had taken the pain and time to find out the new phone number and making sure that it was returned to the owner. Could not thank her enough.

Good outcome now DON'T DO IT AGAIN! :giggle:

As for setting an amount on the pump I don't like the sound of that. I assume that if you've miscalculated it still clicks off when it's full and doesn't end up shooting fuel on to the forecourt just to get to the amount you've programmed it to fill to?

I very much doubt it as that would be dangerous and illegal!

SWIMBO used to put her engagement ring in a purse when she was golfing - loaded up after a game one day and left it sitting on rear bumper - never to be seen again.

This was replaced through an insurance claim. a few years later we were on a cruise, You need to wipe your hands with disinfectant gel (same stuff as in hospitals) when you go back on board - rub hands, become slippy, ping as ring hits the dock, plop into the water - another one gone - think someone is trying to tell me something ????

I followed a car with a bunch of keys on the boot lid. I retrevied them from the road after they fell off. Caught the car at aset of traffic lights and tapped the window, the look on the drivers face when I handed them back was a picture....

If find no end of wallets, usually emptied of cash at the services.

Guessing pickpocketed from folk who put theirs in their rear pockets.

Did the same thing many years back whilst driving home locally. Once home had no idea anything was wrong until an older chap appeared at the door clutching my wallet. He'd found it in the middle of the road and luckily I had address details in etc. I was amazed someone had gone to the effort of actually returning an item to my house and rewarded him for his effort.

Perhaps nowadays this may be the exception rather than the rule, but there are still some really good folk out there

I have to say it made my day knowing there are decent people about!

I 'lost' my wallet at a Tesco Filling station, had bank card in shirt pocket to pay so didn't notice the loss. Screamed back 5 minutes later, accosted the next driver at the pump I had used, got the staff to replay the CCTV, nothing. Found it a week later under the driver's seat!
