Fabia 2 - Tyres

Featured Replies

This week i am trading in my beloved Fabia 1.2htp for an ex-demo Citigo.

It is a 59 plate and has done 33,000 miles.

It struck me that it still has all four original tyres on it (Bridgestones)

The front tyres still have 4mm tread depth, and the back tyres have 5mm.

This is the least tyre-wearing car i have ever owned! Going to miss the Fab.

Just wondering how others with the Fabia 2 get on with tyre wear?

My lad has recently bought a 59 plate Fabia 1 12v with 21k on the clock, dealer replaced the front tyres as the original Conti tyres were not far from the limit. Mind it's an ex courtesy car, so I imagine its had a bit of a hard life to date but that was reflected in the price he paid.

My Fabia 2 wore out its original Conti's around 23,000 but the replacements still have 4-5mm at around 50,000. Think the Conti is a good allround tyre for wear, handling, wet grip and (in my case) resistance to punctures.

I had a Citigo for a few days recently and was well impressed. Have you specified the slow speed accident avoidance system which stps you running into the back of someone in slow moving traffic queues? Very clever.

Still love my 42 mpg Fabia 1.6, though. Reliable, looks good and seats 4 adults in comfort. Considering Yeti as next car as wife can't get comfortable in Fabia. I'm fine but she's not comfortable after a couple of hours driving.

Lets hope it prove's relable without any false alarms. .

I change mine when they get down to about 3mm or 3.5mm so I never get more than about 10 or 11k on the front. rear usually double that.

1.6mm is simply too dangerous in the wet.

1.6mm is only to dangerous if your going to fast for the condition's, some branded tyre's with 1.6mm will perform better than a not so known tyre with 8mm.

I bet you could sell your half used one's depending on brand, could save you some money

yes true 1.6mm is dangerous in any condition if you're going too fast, but so is any depth if going too fast for the conditions.

my point is a lower depth reduces stopping distance in the wet.

Amazing how little some tyres wear.

Our HTP Fabia still has 3 of its original Bridgestone and tey still have 4-5 mm left.

That said I will change them when they get close to the 3 mm as wet weather breaking really starts to tail off after this.

Police, and we in Customs, ditch tyres at 3-3.5 mm.

Not seem much on age versus perfomance but I would have thought a 3 or 4 year old tyre would be less grippy than a new one.

You can buy a full sized spare for the smaller engine fabias for a remarkably low price so good to get one and swap it for a front tyre and put the part worn one in the boot I reckon.

Worth checking out hte new tyre ratings and therefore only go for A rated wet grip and pref AA rated traction.

Tyre is only thing better you and the road, between moving and stopping so get the best.

Only learnt today that Michelin own ATS, learn something every day!

I'm taking the ex-Demo car as seen, i am not aware it has the safety pack to be honest. I've watched a youtube video of it in action and it looks clever.

Unfortunately, Anastacia didn't appear in the passenger seat when i turned the key...

Have Conti Premium Contact 2 215/60 R16 H rated on our Yeti; hopeless in the wet and getting worse as they wear (5.5mm currently). However the 205/45 R16 W rated versions of the same tyre on the wife's Fabia are OK with the same level of tread on the fronts. Noted the higher speed tyre has wider circumferential grooves that might account for this.

So in my experience even supposed premium tyres cannot be always reallied upon for a decent wet weather performance.

True, Nokian came first this year in a German braking test in both wet/dry, not sure what the lateral grip would be like through. .
