2.0lt tdi cr

Featured Replies

Hi Guy's and Gal's,

looking for advise regarding the 2.0lt tdi cr engine, is there any issues that I should be aware of before I take the plunge

Had one for 2 and a bit years now. No issues that i am aware of!

I was disappointed with my old CR vRS having come from a TFSI vRS. Neither fast or particularly economical. Remap helped though.

That's an interesting view, I am looking to change mind next year and at the moment I can't decide between the CR Tdi or the TSi. Swmbo has a Golf GT with the PD140 engine, standard it was poor, but Shark'd it's very good. By comparison the CR is s far superior engine and with higher power I thought it would be comparable mid range to a standard Tfsi.

Apologises for the thread hijack.

Mid range it's similar, in gear at motorway speeds, but ultimately the TFSi/TSi are quicker through the gears and therefore more fun IMO.

The CR remapped is better but in my experience still not as quick.

However a remapped TFSi and to a greater extent the TSi are poles apart from a remapped CR.

My advice is drive both before you buy.

My Tfsi is running Shark stage 2, and it is fast, the PD140 is absolutely no comparison, I just thought the CR being 170 standard remapped to 200 ish but with 350+ lb/ft would give even a mapped one a run for it's money?

Remapped TFSi/TSi would destroy remapped CR. Mine old remapped CR struggled to keep with a Leon FR tsi through the gears.

What does stage 2 on the TFSI do? About 250bhp to 255bhp I am guessing?

Estimated 260ish.

Similar to tsi stage 1 then I guess.

I think so, the TSi has the advantage of a HPFP as standard doesn't it?

Yep that's right. It's fractionally lighter too lol but I think that could be lack of spare wheel as standard!

Had mine for 19 months now and no major issues, love it  economical, fantastic torque and great to drive.

Had my CR for a year now & no issues. Map due in the next few months - Can't wait, it'll be like having a new car (I'm hoping)! Not having a petrol I cant make the comparison but I know it shifts quite well & pulls nicely from 2100 upto 4300 revs. Enjoy whatever u choose.

I've had both TFSI and Diesel VRS. TFSI is more 'fun' as in you can hold the gears longer, it sounds better and it's got that edge in flat out acceleration.

The diesel starts to compete at motorway speeds....feels very similar in terms of performance...as for fuel consumption - couldnt get more than 31 mpg out of the petrol - lowest is just under 40 with the diesel....

the diesel does have a nice snort if you cane it in 1st or 2nd...

:)

Well I have just come from a remaped A3 PD140 to the TSi and I'm really enjoying the switch back to a Petrol manual, mind I'm not enjoying the fuel usage. Decided against diesel this time as I only do 8500 miles a year now and was fed up with emissions issues on my PD, didn't fancy a DPF or EGR with their potential issues with soot.

Starting to gel with my VRS a week in and managed a 41MPG run yesterday to the SiL's house with the FiL in the car so nice steady drive.

Interesting I get 29mpg in my tsi and have managed 38 on a run. My old CR managed 37mpg.

Ignoring the Petrol V Diesel debate and answering the OP - CR is a nice engine - much more civilised than the older PD - less "obvious", less peaky - much more linear power delivery. Turbo lag still an issue though but appears DPF issues are sorted, not that they were much of an issue to begin with!

It's the same engine that Audi, VW and Seat use so it's across the VAG group.

Buy one and also benefit from the increased resale value and economy over the TFSI even if you only do low mileage. It's all about how much the car costs you in the first place :-)

My old CR managed 37mpg.

Blimey, must have been faulty - I get 33-35mpg towing! Have had 60mpg on a good run solo.

I drove it hard to make up for lack of performance ;-)

As long as you are aware of the foibles of the DPF, there are some out there that have had to pay for the DPF to be changed once over the 95% level of soot, when you can't even do a forced regen via Diagnostics.

Not on a CR.

Mine is the 140 CR, not the most exciting but thats not what I got it for. When people describe the acceleration as linear they are absolutely correct, it just pulls and pulls with what feels like not a lot of urge, I then look in the mirror and i'm really motoring. Did an 80 mile run to derbyshire at the weekend and manged an indicated 69mpg, was stuck behind trucks and tractors a lot of the way which assisted the figure. On the way back mainly dual carriageway and motorway, figure was indicated 60mpg.

Have done 23000 with no problems so far, touch wood.
