MG6

Featured Replies

Has anyone here actually driven one?

I'm very tempted to go and see one to see how bad it really is. In the year or so it's been out - I've seen one on the road.

According to http://howmanyleft.c.../?utf8=?&q=mg 6

There were only 718 registered on the road so far this year.

Now I'm no businessman - but that doesn't sound like good sales figures to me.

Still....nice to see 5 Metro 6R4 still taxed this year :)

I never even knew it existed so obviously not much marketing! Wiki'd it and it's derived from the Rover 75, and more closely a Roewe (possibly pronounce Wover in Chinese) Didn't Top Gear test a Roewe on one of the episodes? Built in Longbridge so expect bad Brummie build quality!

Like the Mitsubishi Starion perhaps? :giggle:

Infact I saw one of these on the road the other day too :)

All built at rongbridge?

Seriously though, I saw one on the road and it looked ****e. Bits of cheap plastic on the outside etc.

Seemed to have totally missed the point.

Iv seen a fair few about here in MK, no local dealer about as far as I know. They look ok in a Kia kinda way. Seen far worse on the road tbh

I've driven one.

I liked it. The interior was horrible; it was cheap plastic overload. But it was nicely spec'd, had fancy dials, good A/C, CD player. I don't think they look too bad either. I was disappointed by the 5 speed gearbox, I didn't think you could even get 5 speed cars anymore! The engine may be old hat but I thought it had quite a bit of soul. There was a bit of turbo lag but it went quite well... certainly the Vectra SRI couldn't get past me despite trying. Quite easy to get well beyond legal speed limits too.

But the place where it really excelled was in the handling department. Compared to my Octavia it felt much more alive with significantly higher levels of feedback from the steering. Plotting it round the twisting Welsh roads was probably more fun than the Octavia. You could tell that the UK arm of MG-Rover had developed the chassis properly.

Having said all of that, when I got back into my Octavia I was pleased. The Octavia is a much nicer place to be and overall premium package; but if they were selling these cars for £12,000 new then I think they would sell quite well in my opinion.

So don't write them off straight away...

...and a new 6 sp 150 bhp diesel version on the way real soon.

There was one on Saltburn seafront last weekend...............horrendous thing. What idiot is going to part with roughley £18k for one of those!!

Iirc isn't the tax something ridiculous to?

I seem to remember the engines were a bad choice for the UK yes.

seen two. one on the road and one at car auction. sold cheap too
