Drift and Meandering

Featured Replies

I had the consol bushes on my '03 Fab saloon replaced @53000 in March. ARB bushes were also replaced for the zecond time. Initially this seemed to substantially reduce the lane drift and meandering I was experiencing at speed.

However, on taking the wagon for a high-speed run yesterday to charge-up the battey (Being semi-retired, I have done less than 1000 miles since March), I found that steering slur seems to have developed i.e. You point the steering wheel in one direction and after a few hundred feet of travel the vehicle hits a point slightly off of what you aimed for. I also found that when I tried to correct it I got the same pronounced effect I usually get when unwinding a low speed episode of understeer (Present on my car from early on in its life) i.e. Unsuppressed roll at the nose.

This car has always been vulnerable to side winds and there was a steady side wind across the motorway yesterday (Offside to nearside), but I felt that what was happening was more than that.

Anybody else had a similar experience after a console bush change ? Is it possible that they could have worn again this soon after replacement ?

When the dealer replaced the ARB bushes, he said that the bar was OK and didn't need doing. Is there a possibilty that that view was in error ?

Basically double check the torque settings of all the suspension bolts........then get the tracking checked by a proper place
