woodSuperb Elegance 130bhp BLack, cream leather, Vavona Trim - Help?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

New Member here, couldnt introduce myself in the introductions thread, so im doing it here!

im not a skoda owner, but i have been keeeping my eye out for the right one for the last year, the right one being as follows:

2005/06

Skoda superb Elegance/Prestige

1.9TDI, 130BHP

Black

Cream Nappa Leather, Half cream dash.

Vavona wood interior trim

80,000 miles

All the rest of the bells and whistles!

Just about 1 month ago, i came across the same car as above in 105BHP, the dealership was about a 2hr drive from me, so i travelled down to see it and offered a price that was accepted. Any way, throughout the next week there was varoious correspondance with the dealer and i told him i would make the trip down the following saturday to view and pay for the car!

Long story short, when i got down first thing saturday - BOOM Car Sold, i was gutted! i still am gutted!

Anyway, now i am on the search again, and because the car i saw was so nice, i feel that if i buy anything less that i will always be comparing to sold Car ( i know, i probably weird!)

So basically im on here trying to see if i can get advice, and see if anyone can help me in my search for my car!( and hopefully someone will tell me that the 105BHP is underpowered and i can get better!) there is some in the 2.0TDI 140BHP, but i would rather stay away from that engine if i could.

hi again to you all! Has anyone any ideas?

All the best

The 105 is underpowered, and you can get better!

How's that? :giggle:

Seriously, I've not driven one - but i would think it is a little challenged in the power department (though of course, it would probably remap nicely.)

You didn't mention whether the dream car is auto or manual - best to go manual.

And yes, avoid the 2.0 140 and check any car for water ingress, which is highly documented on the forum.

good hunting

PS - and if you do find a car you really, really want - leave a deposit (subject to any inspections of course)

Thanks sidewaze!

Id be looking for a manual gearbox!

yeah it was a pity coz i would have put a deposit on it immediately if.......ah F*&% it, spilled milk at this stage!

anyway onwards and upwards!

Don't buy the 2.0 TDI 140bhp for gods sake! :-)

is the 2.0 really that bad or what?

Search "2.0 tdi oil pump problems"

looked at all the info on the 2.oTDI engines, and its off putting to say the least!

Does anybody have any info on car sourcing ?

I'm not sure the Elegance comes with 105 engines, I think you'll find that one is reserved for the lower models, looking at your ask list you really want an Edition 100.

Get an Edition 100 if you can... Loads of spec, and with the AWX 1.9 TDI 130 it's a cracker. I've 120,000 on mine and it runs like a swiss watch.

Happy hunting,

Rob

thanks Rob, Superbia

i like the brown wood trim and the cream dash & Interior which the edition 100 does not have, but they are lovely.

Ill keep searching but its proving difficult.

I have to say. Superbs are becoming more and more rare on the second hand market. I guess now the prices have dropped and people realise how good they are people are buying and holding onto them!

i agree Chris, its quite difficult to find a good one.

i think ill try car sourcing! see if that helps!

Get the 2.5 v6 TDI Elegance manual (very smooth box) pulls like a train also very smooth.

Thanks Guys,

Ive looked at both cars on the web, the edition hasn't got a FSH, and the elegance is red (which is nice i think) but would rather go for black!

i am starting to warm towards the edition 100, they look lovely.

a dealer has rang me about a 2008 lauren & klement model, but i am trying to stay away from the 2.0 TDI, he maintains that he has sold plent and no problems from 2008. Ive also spoke to other dealers and they say no problems from 2008 on, now i know this is not the full truth.

has anyone any info on the MK1 superb, 2.0 140bhp from 2008 on and the reliability of them/ Economy compared to 1.9??

getting there.............

Dealers will tell you anything - especially when they have a lemon to shift.

Don't touch a 2.0 PD.

My cousin is a VAG mechanic and he told me to stay away from the PD 2.0.

Cheers guys,

i guess theres a reason that most VAG 2.0 are cheaper to buy!

in wont be buying one, which is a pity as they come in the finish i want and are more readily available!

the search continues!

...and are more readily available!

says it all really - 130s get held onto.

i`ve copied the below extract from another forum, does anybody have any comments?

i realise its regarding audi, but.....

"Have an 06 140 BHP A4. All of the above happened a number of months ago. I am not mechanically minded but our Audi garage warned me the oil pump was rattling and it needed replacement. I use a mechanic from the same garage to carry out my repairs in the evening. I rang him to book my car in and we had arranged for the following week. He also advised me some pin shares and causes some part to go in the engine (balancing shaft module) He was going to replace this as well at an extra cost of €5 as he would have the engine stripped to replace the pump.

If this pin shares at speed your engine and turbo can be permanently damaged.

As luck would have it the pin snapped a few days before the scheduled repair. Luckily the car was not at speed and the engine was switched off immediately. The turbo was fine.

We had to replace the balancing shaft module and the oil pump at our local Audi dealers costing us a sweet 1,800.00!

However I could not recommend the Audi A4 highly enough!! We do in excess of 40,000 miles per year. The car is very economical and gives us absolutely no trouble besides. Its nearly unheard of to replace parts such as bushings, etc in A4's

My advise is to jump at the 2.0 A4 as they are superb value for money now. Bring it to your garage and get the oil pump and that pin replaced at a cost of 430.00 and you have a trouble free car for 130,000 miles. Money well spent.

Do not even consider the likes of Mercs or BMW's as they give endless bother which is near to impossible to diagnose and costs a fortune to repair. I speak from experience, had all."

Complete idiot. Who would buy a 2.0 when a well maintained 1.9 will run to starship mileages?

I suppose what i am wondering is, if this fix will work on the 2.0 Mk1 superbs?

  • 3 months later...

So does this mean my 2.0 tdi Octavia is rubbish, having covered 172000 miles trouble free ?

So does this mean my 2.0 tdi Octavia is rubbish, having covered 172000 miles trouble free ?

Clearly not... But then it's not a Superb either, and the 2.0PD in the Octavia is not saddled with the same problems apparently. I'm not sure of the differences there are supposed to be, but my previous employer ran a fleet of 13 Octavias, all of which ran to 150K+ without a problem.

The transverse 2.0 PDs don't have the Lanchester shafts.
